This is the truck Rhys jumped and did a 360 degree flip in on New years eve a few years back.

This is where all the race cars start.

The latest project car, this is one sweet ride, first one in US will debut at SEMA

There is quite a bit of info on the truck out there, it's the Red Bull jump truck, there is video of the jump on youtube. That is the truck Rhys broke his back in, dropped from 80 feet onto it's top with him in it, says a lot that he lived.

I have more pictures of the race, they didn't all get uploaded yet. I will post a link when I get them all up.

The guys in Formula Drift are great, everyone that I have met is always willing to talk, and let you tour the shop if you stop by. I really want to get up to Gardella in NJ. I did get a chance to talk with Gary at the event, really great guy and still the fastest 4 banger record holder. All the teams are very welcoming to everyone, if you are anywhere near a Formula D event it is certainly worth the $25 to go for a day, and if you go you will get a $50 coupon from Discount Tire at a minimum, so really it's free. I started out a a fan, got hooked then got lucky and got hooked up, but it's not hard. I was riding around the event in a golf cart with the GM of Formula D, Andy, even my son was impressed. They are just a great bunch of guys, and man do the party! After the event the were raising hell in the hotel until about 6 am, people were leaving to catch there flights out and they were still in the bar. I was in bed. They had a big banquet Sunday night with an open bar, I was invited but at $50 a seat, I declined as I don't drink it would have been some expensive rubber chicken.

Foust's car is running a Toyota NASCAR engine detuned to 660hp from 800hp
http://www.motoiq.com/magazine_articles/articletype/articleview/articleid/1678/a-look-inside-tanner-fousts-rockstar-scion-formula-d-drift-machine.aspx

DMac's is running a 800hp sprint car v8.  Why is one illegal and not the other?  Or are both?

I really like the UK scene as it seems to still be largely based around 4 and 6 cylinder engines

Foust's car is way more than 660 what a joke, and was declared illegal Officially by Formula D, it is not the HP, it is the way the engine is mounted, it sits farther back than allowed. You can not modify the firewall he did. In qualifying he ran at 89 mph, Tuerck was at 82 and everyone else was in the low 70's or 60's, even Jr. and his Mustang is around 900hp Tuerck swapped to a V-8 after Seattle because of Tanner. All the ASD cars are over 800 except maye the Sylvia. Tanner has gone Hollywood this year, they were even kidding him when they gave him the trophy.

DMAC's car will be illegal next year, as will Forsberg's and TMAC's no more open tops. There will be several new rules announced just before SEMA. I am hoping they do something to seperate the big V-8 from the 6's and 4's Tuerck did very well this year with his little 4 banger all things considered he took 3rd over all, edged out Dai by 1 point, and Dai won 2 events, "Yoshihara make you holla!"

like the NOS pics, but then again, I am biased.  Is it me or is the driver of the Sky sitting on the wrong side of the cabin?  Oh and I love the reflective NASA foil on the piping of the Peak Car.

MotoIQ knows their stuff.  They are the best of the best.  Be that as it may, 660hp or not...regulation needs to occur and I second your motion.

It may have been 660 when they tested it but every car is constantly being retuned, I saw him drive away from other cars, he was running a lot of horsepower, I didn't read it I saw it, and Dave from ASD and Rhys both told me the same thing.

Thanks, I am trying to shoot like the big boys, it is very easy to stop tha action and freeze the car, camera does that almost automatically. If you notice is some of the pictures the wheels are blurred, that is intentional. It is done to give the idea of motion, and IT IS HARD! I don't always get it, you have to really slow down the shutter and that makes it really suceptible to blurring, every track requires differnt settings, then when it gets dark it's all different. I keep learning, coming up lets see if I can stop a car in mid air.

That should be fun trying, trouble is with your eye glued to the sight, you miss all the action going on around you.

My son and I talked about that, most places that's true. At Irwindale I saw more because I was so close that at a point the cars were to close for the lens I was using so I could drop the camera and watch, I rarely get to see the entire track like the spectators do. I don't shoot every run, I watch some of them.

That black think is the mic for the HD camera

This gives you an idea how close I was, I was leaning on the fence in the picture, actually leaning out over the track. By the way I don't retouch anything, I could clean some of these up with Photoshop but that's cheating.

This is the last season for thr kappa in the picture, I want PARTS! They are up in New Jersey so not to far.

goat, I hope you were able to come up with some parts.  But the pictures were a part of history with the Kappa's involvement.  I particularly enjoyed seeing the Mobile 1 Formula Drift pictures.  Again, thanks for covering the event and it was awesome you taking the time to click the pictures and provide commentary along with it.  :urock:  :usa:
