Spare ECM
« on: December 24, 2010, 04:05:56 PM »
I want to get Wester's program in my car with the Solo street race exhaust with some resonators and the catless down pipe but I have emission checks here in Ohio, so I need a spare ECM and both the bypass down pipe and the free flow cat.  Wester's said that I need to have the spare ECM preprogramed with the stock program and installed in the car before he can add his magic.  Where is the best place to get a spare ECM and how would I get my stock program installed onto it?  Crate Engine Depot has the ECM for $326, is that a good price?  It is time to wake up the car.

Don't know if it's the same ECM as the NA, but I would check with ICS in Michigan.  Got a brand new ECM for my 2008 NA for $100 shipped a couple months ago.  (Of course I bought a few parts so the shipping was spread over several items)

Contact Clay here:    cvandermeeden@icsautoparts.com

He was extremely helpful when I was looking for parts.
They also have an Ebay store so you could search there as well.

ICS bought several trailer loads of parts when the Delaware plant closed.

Just to clarify about the parts.
Actually ICS bought the parts from a vendor in Michigan when the Wilmington plant closed from what I was told by ICS.

I have had the best luck on car-parts.com average around $100.00 ea. for the (4) I've bought. Make sure you get same year, transmission, and service# . Had the dealer flash the VIN# even though they worked in the 07 without doing so.

Yeah probably easier  to have the dealer flash so the VIN#'s match.  If someone close has HPT they can also chnage the VIN# to match also IIRC.

Did you try ECU Outlet.  They can have your year/model pre programmed when you buy it.

Will an 08' manual transmission GXP ECU also work in an 08' manual transmission Sky Redline?  If so, is it just a matter of changing the VIN or will the dealer have to download the tune?

We've tried run Solstice ECM in a Redline that before and it didn't work.  I'm not sure if a full re-write if the ECM while it's installed in a redline would work.

Don't know about the 08's, think there is a different OS in the later years. I have tested (3) 07 Redline ECMs in my 07 GXP and they worked fine before changing anything. The SERVICE #s were identical and they were out of automatics and mine is also automatic. There is a 30 minute security relearn procedure involved in doing this though.
When I purchased mine used, the only ones available were from totaled Redlines, no GXPs available. Must be something with the drivers of Redlines.  :poke:

I'll call the techs that I know are still at my old dealer and see if they can/will download a copy of my tune (GMPP).

The website for ECU Outlet states that the ECM is unavailable.
