Recall duration?
« on: February 15, 2011, 11:55:56 AM »
Am I correct in assuming that a factory recall has no duration period?
And that any dealer can access if recall work was or wasn't performed based on the VIN?

I believe that's correct with a caveat that you should perform the recall work in a timely fashion once you have been notified.

I can't say for cars, but on motorcycles the duration could be infinity, but often they have a time frame. It can be either by a certain date, by miles or by time of ownership.

OK, a little research shows that yes they do expire, but not if it is a safety recall.

I was told by my service rep that the rear pinion seal recall (I have not done) was good for life. How much truth there is to that statement I can't say. Good question!

I assume it fit that criteria having heard the reasons they took it seriously.
