2871 Turbo Upgrade for 2.0L Now Available
« on: February 25, 2011, 02:13:55 PM »
DDMWorks is proud to offer a true bolt-on turbo upgrade for the GXP and Redline 2.0L Ecotec for those looking to increase power output. This is a great upgrade for street driven cars as it really adds a big punch of power right in the midrange of the power band, without sacraficing spool and response.

The turbo compressor being used is capable of 450HP at the crank, and with tuning HP levels at the wheels of 360+ are achievable. If you would like to run E85 or use Methane injection higher horsepower can be achieved.

Using the exhaust side of the stock turbo, the center cartridge and compressor housing is swapped with that of the Garrett GT2871, this makes the upgrade a direct bolt-on to the stock manifold and uses the stock downpipe.

Installation requires the addition of a blow off valve, we recommend the Synapse Blow off valve and this can be included with your purchase by selecting the option when ordering.

You can choose to send us your turbo to have it machined, cleaned, new cartridge installed, balanced and sent back to you (around 2 week turn around), or a core can be purchased.

This turbo is designed for the daily driver in mind that wants a simple bolt on kit for the car and want to add power right in the heart of the rev range.

The install kit we are offering helps make installation even easier and comes with a new water supply line (so you do not have to bend the stock line up), a silicone 90, a silicone 2"-2.5" transition and a shoot piece of tubing to connect to aftermarket charge tubes (DDMworks and Dejon tubes have been verified to fit with this setup). Also the turbo needs an external blow off valve, we recommend the synapse unit, as it does not leak air at idle and works very well in testing.

Turbo price is $1200
Install kit is $105
Install kit with Synapse Blow off valve $324

Here are some comparisons of a maxed out stock turbo and the 2871 on our dyno. The only change was the turbo and some tuning to take advantage of the larger turbo.

We started accepting orders on these this week, give us a call at 864-907-6004 or you can place the order online at - http://ddmworks.com/solstice/engine/lnf_gt_turbo_upgrade.html

Let me know if you have any questions,
Dave

Dave,
Just out of curiosity, any issues with the automatic trans. Are these dynoed with auto or manual car?  I know you've mentioned in the past the auto can cause some difficulty in tuning right?  Any thing here?

All of the dyno testing we have done is with the manuals, as it is a real pain to dyno the automatic cars. The tuning is not so much of an issue, just getting a good sweep on the dyno is hard to do.

Hope that helps,
Dave

Just 93 Octane, no methane, water, race gas, etc.

Also the stock clutch is holding at this power level, although if I was doing drag racing, I would definitely think about upgrading the clutch.

Any issues with the clutch on the 2.0s with that much HP and Torque?

When I had the gt3076r, it had 370whp and 350tq, and the stock clutch never slipped.  Stock was fine the whole time.

But several months later, when I had the gt3582r, with 400whp and 380tq, then the stock clutch started slipping.

so I think, with this 2871 turbo upgrade, the stock clutch will be fine.

Thats my personal experience.     Other cars with gmpp tune/wester tune, and k04 turbos experience slipping of clutch right away though.....

Dave not for me, for the other people ;)

About stock clutch I do 400tq (460tq with nitrous), 20000 miles from which over 10000 miles made in inferno traffic of my city. Over 300 launches, many failed burn out attempts  :( and stock clutch is still good. I feel bad thinking to replace it

BTW: Dave please don't forget about my clutch (in PM).

The other graphs didn't accurately display the results.
It looked like more of an extreme spike because the graph was too narrow.
This shows that it matches the rpm delivery of the stock setup, but with more power.

Just want to confirm there is a GMPP tune associated with the OEM turbo in the graph ("maxed out?") since the HP/Tourque numbers are similar to a car with GMPP.  If so, then this represents an even better deal for people without an aftermarket or GMPP tune.

Sounds like DDM has another great product. I bought a bolt on turbo kit from Dejon and it was completely screwed up including the flange was welded backwards. requiring cutting it and rewelding, wrong instructions, they even gave a phone number of the turbo company if you had any problems[They never heard of Dejon or that kit],cheap lock washers that flatten out and caused my turbo to come loose and burn out my wheel well and wires. Dejon should not sell turbo kits period. DDm did their homework!

The car that it was tested on did have the GMPP on it, and our tune on top of it.

Although we have not made anymore power on the dyno with the GMPP tune than we can do without it. The only reason we see for the GMPP is if you want to maintain your warranty and up your power.

Good to know as I already have the 3 bar sensors

Dave,
I currently have the Stock Intercooler
How much of a difference can you make if I add your Intercooler?
Also thinking I might want to add a Solo Hi Flow Cat [Need to have a cat for emissions still]

Thoughts?

Dave,

I just did my taxes for this year.  SO.... I am doing a bit of research on how to best spend my money.  Everybody tells me just to have my refund check mailed to you....

What I see:
The dyno graphs you posted in the first post of this thread show that the stock turbo (with a tune) is significantly higher power output down low (up to 3500 - 3750 rpm).  From what I can tell, the difference is about 50 - 75 ft pounds?  After that, there is no doubt the hybrid set up packs a punch.
The Question:
Is there a reason for this?  Is this just the way you tuned it? Or is there a slower response time with the hybrid set up?

Please don't anybody take this as me knocking this product.  It's not.  I'm just an idiot asking questions.  Also, it matters more to me because I have an automatic and have a harder time chosing what gear to be in and what RPM range to be running in.  I have not gone out to look at the ranges I'd be in with normal (for me) day to day driving, perhaps it's not an issue.  Just seems like the stock (with tune) set up give a good amount more punch when I need it most?  Or, is the reality more like:
" by the time that stupid automatic transmission downshifts, the engine will be in the optimal rpm range to take advantage of the hybrid turbo set up anyway... stupid automatic tranny...."

Would the stock (with tune) set up actually be quicker of the line (think stop light to stop light.... not that any of us would EVER do that), but the hybrid set up would end up faster in a 1/4 mile?  assume equal launch and everything...

Or, perhaps that is WHY you dialed in the hybrid set up the way you did?  To try to limit wheelspin in the lower rpms and allow the car to hook up and launch, then pour on the power?

Sorry for the long post.
