Additional tune features (wishlist)
« on: February 27, 2011, 07:31:59 AM »
the tune i am running seems the best solution for me for specific reasons (good power, code scanner, well known tuner, select-a-tune, undetected by dealers, remote tuning, works with all PC OS, good price, lifetime support etc).

what i would really want more are 2 features:
1. i would like select-a-tune to give the ability (somehow) to choose between 4 tunes on the fly: kill mode meaning maximum boost of 5psi-almost NA LNF, stock mode (maximum boost between 15-18 psi, light tune meaning making 80-85% power of the possible maximum stock turbo power and tune maxed out aka race tune.
2. Launch control

i know that the tuner i work with is on the process of developing the launch control..looking forward to this.

as for the 1st feature i know it's been done on VAG cars through an additional device, so it's not imaginery.

no other reason for this post, just posting my thoughts

1) Once a great tuner told me, the ability to limit the tune is in your right foot that is my tuner :P I don't see why you need so many tunes.

2) We can't have a real launch control, launch control means electronically control even AFTER the car has started to move and is generally applicable to auto trannies, all we can have is so called step 2 launch control which I have from WOT Box, EDS has similar but only for a fixed rpm which is useless until perfect traction, also Cobalt stage tune comes with this feature if i remember correctly. Launch control doesn't make you better launcher it makes you consistent but requires setting based on conditions.

Launch control is also a nice way to break something.   The human lack of precision keeps your drivetrain parts in one piece.
Just ask all those Nissan GTR owners

as far as the multiple tunes, there are several reasons for some people. kill tune is also called valet tune and u select it when you give the car to someone you don't want to have so much power (i.e. the valet parking, your wife-gf etc) or when too much power and torque at certain rpms are useless or even make your life difficult (i.e in the traffic, or on snow).

as for the launch control (step 2 as Kelu says), i didn't know there could be issues with it, eds seems to handle that quite good. if Trifecta releases it, then i will certainly will have it.

eds seems to handle that quite good.
Handle good, what do you mean?  :slap:
That is weakest and simplest launch control, you can't modify the rpm when it is engaged - 4500rpm.
If you have a weak surface, too much torque, weak tires and you spoon the wheels when you release the clutch at 4500rpm than is useless.

I think BSR one is same.

don't  :slap: me malaka..i'm just posting my wishlist
sorry, i didn't define "handle good"...i meant as far as the problems Elff mentioned.
i know it's not customisable on the fly.  if Trifecta makes one, or some other custom tuner, i bet they will have the option of the rpm someone wants to engage.

Vince @ Trifecta is doing tunes with launch control now.  There is a thread on the balts.  Haven't tested the roadsters yet.

i exchanged emails with Vince 3 days ago to order a budget tune for a GT friend (10 GT guys bought this as a present for him, coz he has bought us many coffees at his cafeteria) and Vince told me he is still working on it

Still working on that.  Was working on it yesterday actually.  Still in the works though.  ;-)

maybe he just not have it ready for the kappas a you say Joe
