Sky Hood Debacle

You have all heard me whine about the disaster with my new hood. It seems to be getting worse. It appears that hoods coming from GM are no longer fitting either.   :slap:

So it's another aftermarket hood that GM contracted out for another company to make. It's not GM made. Doesn't make the situation any better, but I know a certain someone that's going to have a nice hood ready for us sometime in the future.

While I respect everyone's opinions I wouldn't want the Sky hood Norm is making. If he was making one that looked similar to stock my mind could definitely be changed.

I know I will probably get Norm's hood this year meaning I will sell off my stock hood because I don't want it laying around in my garage. It seems that a true OEM hood could be worth more than what I'm going to pay for Norm's hood and possibly even the paint job to go along with it.

According to my insurance company, the OEM hood is $880.

I got my damaged hood back from the body shop and it's sitting in my garage. I will be keeping it around in case of emergency. Hopefully I'll never need it. Until then it will make a nice wall decoration :)

Well the "OEM" hood that is on ebay that is $1500 is being bought by the other guy's insurance company. That's quite a markup from what your insurance company says it's worth. I still don't think it's going to fit.

Here is an idea I've been kicking around in my head for this Fall.  Get Norm's Viper hood and a smoothline top, put them on, and then take them to the paint shop, and get a total paint makeover.  Now, just gotta find about $3.5K

I thought Norm had said he's working on a OEM style hood AND a custom hood?

That information is incorrect. I just asked Spiky who had just spoken with Norm. Norm is currently only making the viper style.

Bummer. Personally I like the viper style hood but I can understand if others don't.

With anything other than stock we're hosed for SCCA class compliance though.

I find it difficult to believe that even if the GM hood is being made for them by an outside vendor  that they wouldn't be using GM's dies to stamp them.  GM does own the dies after all. Something isn't right.
Just trying to do my part...

:agree:  I really wonder if your body shop knows all the different adjustments required to make the hood fit correctly.  If not, that could explain a lot of gaps all over the place.  I wonder if it is time to ask someone else to do it.

Treeman if you're referring to my car, mine's already done.

And I agree, that's why I made sure to give them the instructions that come from the factory showing all the adjustments and what the spacings are supposed to be.
