MASSC Buds and Blossoms Run 2011 - April 30th

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

MASSC will once again celebrate Spring on our Buds and Blossoms Run on Saturday April 30th. I don't have the full itinerary set up yet, but will put together a day trip that includes all of our favorites (Bear Mountain and Harriman State Parks, a twisty drive west on 17-A ending at the Warwick Valley Winery for lunch), while hopefully finding a few new roads or stops to spice up what we've done in years past.

For more info on the places we will visit, you can check out these websites:

Scenic Byways in New Jersey

Bear Mountain State Park - NYS Parks, Recreation & Historic Preservation

Harriman State Park - NYS Parks, Recreation & Historic Preservation

Warwick Valley Winery & Distillery

We will meet at the Stateline Lookout on the Palisades Parkway at 10am.  There is a cafe and restrooms at the overlook, and we will take some time to gather together and probably a group photo or two.

We will depart from the Lookout PROMPTLY at 11:00am. The drive itself should take us about 3 hours.  This will give us enough time to enjoy the drive and still reach the winery in time for lunch and wine tasting.

I don't want to do an open wall post, but I'll set up an event and invite those I know on FB.

Then you should be able to add other Kappa owners to the invite that I might not already be friends with.

While it is nice to have a facebook event, it's just another place Dengel has to go to track attendance. Why don't you send/post a link to whoever you want to attend and have them sign up on one of the already existing 3 forums?

Why not take a full page ad in the newspaper...if u own a kappa, it is posted on those web pages...build it and they will come.  Enough said.

So sorry for the simple suggestion. Did not realize that this was a difficult thing. I know Susan would know she tracked it across all platforms for the St. Patty's Day parade and she had a GREAT turnout.

Looking forward to the first New England get together for the year! Hope everyone has their cars out of storage and are enjoying the lovely "spring" weather. LOL!

It's not a big deal but if you've tracked events you know what a pain it can be with all the cross posting. Plus adding in the facebook becomes an issue because you don't have forum names.

Dengel, this reminds me, I believe Stephanie Archer signed up on facebook, she is SolsticeSJA.

Smartin tracked it by saying if you want to sign up go to the thread on the Solstice forum, not actually signing up on each, individual forum.

I have posted the event on facebook, several weeks ago in fact.

As someone else noted earlier though, I don't necessarily know everyone's "real" names on facebook, so the invite list is pretty limited, and only inlcudes those who are my facebook friends, who I know own a Kappa and who I know live in the Northeast region, which is a much smaller audience than the forums can reach.

Please feel free to add others to the facebook invite from your local clubs that I may not know on Facebook.

UPDATE!!!!!!!

We will meet at the Stateline Lookout on the Palisades Parkway at 10am.  There is a cafe and restrooms at the overlook, and we will take some time to gather together and probably take a group photo or two.

We will depart from the Overlook PROMPTLY at 11:00am. The drive itself should take us about 3 hours.  This will give us enough time to enjoy the drive and still reach the winery in time for lunch and wine tasting.

I did an initial pre-run of this event yesterday. The roads through Bear Mountain and Harriman all seemed to be open and in pretty good shape, so lets hope for a mild April. I have changed the route to the winery to be a little longer and hopefully it will be a little easier to follow as a group.

Dengle,

What's the best way to get to the start of the run from Philadelphia of possible Scranton, PA?

Sal

From Philly, you would take I-95/NJ Turnpike North.  Be sure to stay in the local lanes as you approach the George Washington Bridge.  Take I-95 exit 72 for GW Bridge Lower Level/Palisades Parkway/US-9W.  Turn left at the light as you come off the exit ramp onto Fletcher Ave.  The entrance to the Palisades Parkway will be about 1/2 mile down on the right.  Stateline Lookout is about 10 miles down the Palisades Parkway, just a little north of exit 2.

From Scranton, PA you would take I-80 East towards New York City.  As you approach New York City.  I-80 East will end and you will merge onto I-95 North.  Again, be sure to stay in the local lanes. Then follow the same directions above to get from I-95 to the meeting place.

Do it all the time... Amazingly, people get out of your way in NYC, they respect the car. I have been thru there countless times in the SOL and a FIT, they have hit 2 FIT's and never even came close to the SOL. Wierd actually.

You DON'T WANT TO GET ON the GW Bridge!!!  That is why I stressed staying in the local lanes on I-95. You want to get off of I-95 while still in NJ, before you end up accidentally crossing the GW Bridge into Manhattan.
