Stuart called yesterday after he found a section of one of the roads has gone gravel since I last drove the area.
When he mentioned there was a road that started with a "D" I replied if it was Dillingham Road, depending on where that one came out, we could still do the run. I was right on the name.
My point is, these runs can't be done from memory.
Roads must be driven, potential detours driven and mapped throughout the planning process.  Then, just before the runs, the roads must be preferably well explored by road captains in addition to be driven by the leaders just as on a run.

Vendors are stepping up to the plate, and those who have volunteered need to send us direct email addresses and contact phone numbers so we can get moving.

We aren't even to the point of making a list of candidates for road captains because there are a lot of tasks to accomplish before the summer. I hope to be making some contacts this weekend.

I don't think anyone knows anything yet, but I sure would like for it to be in Asheville.

Do you even know if you have the bid for 2012?

Who would we submit a bid to?  AFAIK there is no current organization anywhere that can authorize, approve or otherwise sanction this effort.

No one else has stepped up to the plate to say that they are working on a 2012 NA event, so I guess it's Asheville or nothing at this time. Kind of like how Austin evolved.

Please, please, please, anyone, correct me if I'm making faulty assumptions here.

Critter, I think you are right in your assumption. There is no one to sanction. Going forward this may be the only way to get this done. If you need any help from the southern side let me know.

That was my point.  Is anyone running with this on the other boards as well.  I know it is hard to believe, but this isnt the only board out there :)

There has been a lot of discussion about it on the sol board. If you can find the posts in between all the bickering it's there.

I'd like to see Asheville become a reality. If it does I will attend. I wish I could attend Austin but it's just too far for me.

Dave, I think the question was more of when was the decision to go to Asheville made rather than has the Asheville event been posted.

Seems to me it is going to happen no matter what anyone else thinks. If they are moving along like this, then this is it.  I am in.

If anyone else wants to do it somewhere else, go for it. Like discussed on the other forum, there is room for an East Coast AND a West Coast "National". But unless someone from the West coast, or elsewhere, wants to step up and put in the work, by default Ashville it is!

I have no problem with it, and am in full support of Ashville!

Dave, I think the question was more of when was the decision to go to Asheville made rather than has the Asheville event been posted.

duck first posted it during the 3rd week of January over on the big board,
http://www.solsticeforum.com/forum/1017427-post22.html

That thread had to do with proposals for holding the 2012 North American Solstice/Sky Meet.   So far duck's proposal (Asheville) is the only proposal, and he is getting support from a variety of sources.

At this point no "decision to go to Asheville" has been "made", as there is no national sanctioning group to make any decisions.

Until some other group comes forward with a different plan, Asheville is the only game in town.

FWIW, I am supporting it and have told duck I'm on board with planning the event, even though I'm a long way away from there.  I plan on spending a week roaming the area next month when we can get away for a bit.

I think, at this point, whoever steps up to the plate first - like Austin did and now Asheville - that is where the BIG meet will be.

As has been seen for years talk gets absolutely nowhere ... somebody has to take action!  Duck and Stuart have stepped to the plate.  As I have told them - the same as I was told with the very first National Meet - "plan it, they will come".

I know in Colorado Duck mentioned that he was interested in having something in this area ... I'm glad to see it come to fruition.  Now, just need to have some more step up to help with some of the 'behind the scenes' tasks that also need to be taken care of.  Trust me, it WON"T take tons of your time, it WILL help the organizers focus on more critical matters, it WILL help make the event a great one, it WILL give you a sense of pride that YOU helped put an event of this magnitude.

Now ... where's all those other volunteers?  Fill up Va_Sky's and Duck's PM boxes!!  I've already sent both my little bit of contribution and I probably won't even be able to attend!

NASSM 2012 is no longer a proposal.

The Hotel contract for NASSM 2012 Summer SOLSTICE in the Land of SKY is signed and we have the week of Summer Solstice 2012 at the preferred and first choice of properties chosen in 2008.

A web site is being built, so there will be more later after the holiday.  Happy 4th  :us2:
