2012 Solstice & Sky Nationals in Asheville NC
« on: March 12, 2011, 10:53:12 PM »
As some of you may know or may have seen duckSol has proposed that the 2012 Nationals be held in Asheville NC.

Duck and I have actually been talking about this for a couple of years and we believe it would make a great location for a National Solstice and Sky meet. There are plenty of things to do with loads of attractions both in Asheville and within an hours drive of Asheville and the roads in this area are phenomenal.

Duck has some of the ground work already laid. I have some of the runs already mapped out and ready to run. The problem is that Duck and I can't do this alone. We need some help. We need volunteers that are able to help with all of the work still left to be done both on the ground and on-line and through the phone. There is still a lot of logistical work to be done to try to get this event off the ground and up and running. That is if this is the location where people would like to see this event happen.

So this is a request for help with anything and everything to get this event up and running.

Va_Sky & duckSol

One of the reasons I brought this to the forefront so early is that the single source venue for lodging is a popular car venue and IMHO the only place found to date that has everything desirable for a National KAPPA meet.
A group has just under 1/4 of the rooms booked in the 4 story portion of the Asheville Crowne Plaza Resort the week of Solstice.

To lock in rates and ensure NASSM 2012 Summer SOLSTICE in the Land Of SKY is everything forum members would like it to be, we need to move in on this early.
So step up if you want this as YOUR national for 2012.

As duck knows, I've already pledged to help out with this venture in whatever way I can from 800 miles away.  If we get enough supporters working on this it'll become a reality, folks.  Now's the time to step up!

Great town. Just plan on finding someplace other than the blue ridge parkway to do any fun runs. Its a terrible road to creep along in a sportscar behind an endless train of very slow RVs. Good time to get some topography maps from US Geological Survey, or to plot from google earth.

I have already told Ducksol I will help. I live about 20 miles from Asheville. There are great roads and attractions in the area.

Asheville, North Carolina would be an awesome NASSM.  I can't help with the planning because we live so far away to be on site to lend in the work and forsight needed to bring this event to fruition, but I am glad that the early planning and work needed to make this happen has begun.  Good luck to all in this venture.  :urock: :usa:

Oh I know all about the Parkway... Plus if you have more that 10 cars together in a caravan you are suppose to have a permit....

Here are a couple of the proposed runs so far...

:gaah: Better place across from the Stockyards down by the river.  :slap:
Just exit out the back way from the Crowne Plaza and exit before crossing Smoky Park Bridge. Head downhill and rubberneck to the right
Following the smell don't always werk cause the winde mostly blows away from the old Craggy Prison, a famus movie set location towards the RR yard,  :poke:
