Yep, seems like the most direct route, how much time does it take?

Critter,

That will never work.  We are going to be on Genoa Rd/Town Point Rd for 46 feet... do you know how bad the traffic is on that road?  We'll never get thru there...  Plus, the cops love to hide out behind the 7th tree on the right after the second left turn after we are on Spa Rd.  We'll get a ticket for sure!

But, I'm glad you are atleast going to try to pick my up at the right airport this time...

So how are we going to keep tabs on the race?  Posting to the forum in a special thread?
That will be easy for me when I'm not in the plane (unless there is wifi) and difficult for CT the whole way.  Also, will need to be able to post videos if something funny were to be caught on film...

(I'm going to need a PM from someone on how best to save / post video to forum as I've never done it.)

Kenny- resident iPad guru... I might have the iPad or maybe even the iPad2 with me.  Are there direct posting methods for photos / videos from the iPad to the forum? (and before anybody talks about the iPad2, it's free from work.  You'd take it too...)

I think we need to set up some waypoints and have to check in at those points at a minimum.  Also, is there any way to track our GPS signals in our phones on the forum via some link to some site?  I have no idea if this stuff is possible, but as Hootie says "anything is possible"

Thoughts?

There are definitely sites that allow your GPS signal to be tracked although I have mine turned off on my phone. I'm sure someone here uses it, if not I will look into it for you.

If I can get up and on the road early enough I'm going to see if I can get video of you and Critter dashing through the airport. If he lets you drive maybe you'll be leaving on two wheels :D. Then again, he does have a lovely route planned out for you.

For video on the forum, upload it to an account on Photobucket (or similar), then just post the link.  (Unfortunately, you can't post the video file directly to this forum.)

Instamapper is free, has programs for iPhone, android and blackberry and provides updates with a map via facebook.

http://www.instamapper.com/overview.html

I haven't used it, but it seems like it will be perfect:

Sharing
You can easily embed a map with your current location on a blog, web page, or Facebook profile. To do this, login to your account, click on "Devices" at the top of the screen, then click on "[sharing]" next to the device whose location you want to share.
Tracks
Historical data can be organized into tracks. Click on "Devices", then on "[data]". Navigate to the first point of the track that you want to select and mark it by left-clicking on it. Do the same for the other endpoint. Hit "Save track". Tracks can be shared and exported on the track manager page ("Devices" -> "[tracks]").

FAQ

Is this service really free?
Yes. We do not charge anything for our tracking service or software.

Is my phone being tracked all the time?
Your phone sends tracking data only when our application is running. On the iPhone, the software must stay in the foreground. Other phones allow the software to run in the background.

How frequently do you update my phone's location on the web site?
By default, your phone tries to transmit location data to InstaMapper every 5 seconds if you are moving 20 mph or faster and if someone is currently tracking you online. If you are not moving, the minimum update rate is 60 seconds. If are not being tracked online, the minimum update interval is 30 seconds.

Update*** made my usual run to Smithfield, VA as part of my routine.

Left house at exactly 10 pm...

Heavy construction in NYC (lost over an hour, ick)...

Made it to MD in 5 hours (normally takes 4 hours) and only doing 6 over the whole way.

Taking the extra driving to Joe's Garage of approimately 1.5 hours that would be 6.5 hours total.

Then again I sat in stop and go for over an hour and could have bypassed it by taking the Cross-Bronx or cutting down the FDR acoss to the tunnels instead of using the George Washington Bridge. Guess I will look on my way home, which will support the trip the best.

(What GJ doesn't realize is I get to practice my run several times before the "big" event to find the best route)

Morfious- great info.  CT and I will look in to getting hooked up.  I don't facebook though... have to look in to that too....

CT- you can practice all you want.  NY and NJ change their construction zones daily...  you never be prepared.

Downloaded app for android. I will look at making it work before my next trip. Seems like it might do the trick to prevent cheating and a minute by minute update of my driving prowess.

So if you check into my account and I am speeding, would this constitue racing?

LOL!

Is it possible to Challenge an airplane? So I guess it would be a trip challenge. Not a flat out "race". Therefore, no legal ramifications...

Except those pesky state troopers. JK, I have the utmost respect for my law enforcement brothern. It is a thankless job, similar to the military...

I am researching to see if CT and I can put our phones on the SAME ACCOUNT so that they may be tracked against eachother on one map.  Obviously, while on the plane, I will not be able to be tracked, but will do my best to wifi in updates.  The plane may be able to be tracked however.... hmmmmm

Either way, CT and I can provide our acct info as the time nears and we can be tracked.

This should be pretty epic. My question though is traffic, it's a holiday weekend. What day is all this taking place, Thursday or Friday?

That's Thailand and Singapore, and it's been years! LOL!!!

I'll admit you're fast on a drag strip, but you aren't going to be on any straight stretch of road that is anywhere near 1/4 mile long.  You do good from A to B, but you really granny the curves unless innocent cones are near!

You know Def I might have been wrong in calling him Captain Slow...I'm thinking he's more the Jeremy Clarkson type, can't go through a corner without drifting and a large amount of white smoke. Those of us who have seen him autocross can back me up.

Powah!

EDIT: Also, Clarkson usually ends up supervising somebody else fixing his car...

Update:

With the potential for aquiring a SuperCharger this "event" is looking more fun by the minute...

Now if my rear diff clears the dealer checks and the stars and moon align... I should have a chance at taking this challenge to the next level.

As previously discussed I have installed the GPS tracker info but am very wary of running a speed tracker actively on Joe's website. This would be an admission of guilt for any type of high speed transit that may occur in the process of this Challenge.

So with that I will not run a tracker for those to see my progress during the trip. No need to give myself an uneeded ticket for stupidity. There are too many stories of people getting tickets on Youtube videos and such. No need to set myself up for falure.

Move it to the deep end or the LSM board and then it is restriced from the general public.  Change your name to GJ and you'll be in the clear even if the police do find it.
