Broken front fender
« on: April 08, 2011, 03:43:10 PM »
My car has never been lifted except service done at what used to be my Saturn dealer. As my health has finally gotten better I ordered a set of the BMW jacking pucks. Figured maybe I would start doing some of my own maintenance. I put in the rear ones and when I got to the drivers side front I found that my fender has the atypical split from a jack pad or lift being done improperly.  Can't tell everyone how upset I am over this. I have stood by this dealer and recommended them for a long time. I called and they said to bring it in, they certainly didn't seem enthused about looking at it. Can't take it in until next week. Should be an interesting conversation when I get there. :slap:

I've been paranoid about this since day one. I'm sorry to hear it happened to you. Hopefully, they will rectify the situation for you. Let us know what happens.

Everytime I take my car into the dealer and they have to put it on a lift, they pick it up back the back end, center and then put the lifting pad all the way under the car to the suspension trusses just to make sure they do not pick it up by the fenders.

And everytime, they point out that someone improperly lifted my car some time in the past.

Which still needs to be fixed. Joe and I have discussed it in the past. Maybe at the SMMM I will finally get them off and rebend them back to normal shape.

G8TR, hopefully your dealer will own up for this one and fix them free of charge. Without a fight. Good luck and best wishes!

A few years ago at a detail day Moms found that both fenders on our 06' were smashed. I called the dealer and they had no problem replacing both fenders. The sad part is that the tech had to know he smashed the fenders, probably sounded like a tin can being smashed. Now we do a walk around before and after service.

Difference between Sky (plastic) and Solstice (metal). They both still break in the same place.

Yeah, I've done that since I bought the car after hearing the horror stories. Nothing to report yet, touch wood.
Just trying to do my part...

That's exactly why I bought and installed (and leave installed) the BMW pucks.  No worries.
