ECU adjusting to location?
« on: May 01, 2011, 09:15:16 AM »
So as I am curious. I've been reading about ECOTEC motors lately. One of the things I read was how the ecu has multiple settings for the location of the vehicle. The article was talking about altitude, emissions and humidity. For example, if the car was going to an area like Washington State the settings would be different than say, southern Cali.  I have had an ongoing problem with my car suddenly unable to start or running extremely sluggish. The only commonality i've been able to record during these time is that the weather was extremely humid and/or rainy. Each time it wont run, no one is able to find the cause and then it just disappears with the same kind of mystery. Could there be something wrong with my ecu that its randomly trying to adjust to the humidity and with the modified tune its getting messed up?  :idk: Is this something that could actually be going on?

I would highly doubt that as so many of us live all over with no issues. Your issue might be related to moisture, but I doubt it is the ECU. More likely a bad connection affected by moisture.

"car suddenly unable to start "  This means cranks but will not fire?  If so does it try to fire up? If key is cycle on after it has has been off for >15sec should cause ECM to run the fuel pump for a couple secs.  Check Engine light should be on. This is your EMS getting ready to fire up to run. What happens when yours is unable to start?

We had the same issue on the way to the Nationals last year in Dee's Coupe.  We drove through some pretty horrendous rains for several hours and then I could barely maintain highway speeds.  It was fine the next day after it dried up.  Several other Kappa experienced the same issue on the way to the Canton Meet.  I haven't experienced it on the 07 GXP and we haven't driven in bad rain since then on the Coupe.

Thanks goodness it doesn't happen to mine. I would have a hard time driving G8TR much in Florida with the heavy rains we get.
