I got your PM, I don't have a resource for the rear diff, perhaps contact DDM when they get back from Nationals or find a rear end from a junk yard Sol/Sky

$2500 is a bit low for a GM dealer.  I would guess you can get it done for a lot less if you use an independent shop, and they use used parts.

Couple of questions, 1. was the recall for the pinion seal ever done on your car? 2. have you ever had any other repairs done to the differential?

If you answered yes to both questions then you should call customer service and see a pif they would consider extending the differential warranty to cover this for you.  On my 06 I had multiple repairs and they did an extended for me but I don't recall for how long.  They know that diff is bad..that's why they replaced them in the 07s.

Yea i read about the diff issues and the recalls. They would not extend my warranty, i brought it used. they suggested i trade it back in. They offered to do a straight up trade with me putting down $3000 on another vehicle, ok! I may as well fix it!

they are compatible (the whole carrier), but yours have the torque arm on it, while 06 don't have the torque arm on it. this could be a problem, even though i don;t think so..

just to validate my answer, you can see who made that clear to me

"Hello,

If you are swapping the entire thing, it will be a plug and play. Just remember that your speedometer will be off. Also make sure you get a differential from an 2008 or newer 2.4L as there are 3 styles of differentials found in the 2.4L and you need to make sure that you get one with the torque arm on it.

Thanks,
Dave"

I tend to agree with Kelu.  If I was going to spend that much money, might as well rebuild/upgrade the current one; granted that the housing is undamaged. Get a new set of R&P and Quaiffe differential and take them along with the housing to a transmission shop.  I assume the charge is a couple hundreds to swap them out or if you are mechanically-inclined then swap them yourself; have the shop set the preload, play, and mesh pattern.

:agree: Kelu's right. Get a Quaiffe and be done with dealing with the qirks of the stock diff for ever.

When the diff dies on my car, or needs to be upgraded to handle more power, this will be the only solution I consider.

With a Quaife LSD I bet you will destroy everything else around it but not that diff and for sure will outrun the life of the car.

I don't think Quaiffe makes a diff for our car anymore.  I would contact Dave at
DDMWorks (at the nationals at the moment) he might have a source or Wade at Wade's Garage in WV.  Wade replaces them when he does a V8 swap and normally has some spare parts.

The dealer should be able to do a VIN check for you to see if the recall was done.

Good advice Critter!  Any of the shops that do the V8 conversions might have extra diff's laying around...most of them change to the T56 with the V8 swaps.  I think the three places that do the V8 swaps are DDMWorks, Wade's Garage, and Werks.  I am not sure if Hahn does the conversions, but it's worth a shot as well.

Just make sure if it's a used one, it's a good one and not any with the issues.

My diff was grinding and whining.  Took it in for the recall and come to find out, the bearings were completely destroyed in the diff.  So, definitely get another diff asap!
