Dash Kit that is not shiny
« on: July 07, 2011, 02:01:52 PM »
Howdy folks. Hope y'all are keeping well today.

Question here: Does anyone here know if 'they' make a dash kit (sol) that has a satin finish? I've looked at dozens and they are all shiny. I prefer less shiny or mat finish.

Appreciate it..thanks and have a decent day.  :drive:

Seems a few years ago, it wasn't possible.  :(

Both Joe and Alex from JPM were at the Mod Meet over Memorial Day weekend.  While Joe mentioned the possibility that he might be leaving the company, I did not hear anything official come out.  Did I miss something?

Most Hydro Printing places can do either "shiny" or a matted finish if you prefer. As stated Google is your friend, shop around prices vary.

Here are a few picks of my resent dash and water fall Hydro Print job. Again this can be done in a matted finish if you prefer. The designs are limitless as to what you can do as far as coverings from wood grain to carbon fiber. Cost is compatible to the stick on kits all that you see here was just over $200 including the shipping to and from.

Yeah..and how long do they take? From what I've read about this procedure, you have to send them your parts to get coated, so...

Here is all the contact info for the guy I used.

There was a 10 day turnaround from me to him on the work. You will find endless samples of designs on his site but I recommend calling to get exact info on time table and material design. The biggest expense is shipping as the dash " boomerang" requires a large shipping box. I used a 28"x 9" box with lots of padding as he will return it in the box you ship in. He is located in Mississippi. Shipping for me was around $45 each way from central Indiana location. He quoted me $125 for all my work and I had a stick on kit prior to getting this done. I removed most of the stick on kit myself using a hair dryer and then mineral spirits to remove any excess adhesive I left a small amount of the old kit on so he could see it.

Dis-assembly is some what tedious but not impossible and can be done by a novice. I will point out to remove the rear cup holder requires complete disassemble of the entire rear partition trim from behind the seats as the 3 screws that hold it in can only be accessed from the back. The dis_assembly of the steering wheel pieces requires some patience also. One note on that, remove the hot cable from the battery before messing with the airbag component on the steering wheel. It easier doing it this way than trying to find the proper fuse and this way you know for sure there is no power to the unit.

I highly recommend this guy but again there are lots of places that do this kind of work and a Google search will give you plenty of results. Prices will vary.

If you have any further questions you can pm me and I will try and help.

EarthNTX,

There is a shop doing this process in Midland, TX as well as many others in the state (and surrounding states as well). As is often said, "Google is your friend." :)
