Inbound
« on: February 07, 2009, 11:40:25 AM »
It's official now.  My assignment dropped this morning.  At this point it'll take a General to turn me around and send me anywhere but Ft. Meade...

We'll be there for a day or so in mid May, then take off for a few weeks of leave at home and come back in early-mid June with the GXP.  Might consider delaying our departure from Germany a little and head to the nationals in Colorado before we get ready to settle in MD for the next few years...  I don't technically HAVE to sign into my new unit until 10 July.

Decisions, decisions...

Looking forward to meeting you at Nationals in Denver, if you make it.  Perfect location for a national meet.  Anyway, glad things are working out.  Appreciate your service to our great country there in Germany.  Have a safe trip home.

It'll be GOOD to have you back! But don't EVER forget that we DO appreciate your service to our country, even in Germany. Thank you.

Hope you get to do the Nationals. Don't think we are going, but maybe we can meet at another event someday.

You are landing in a FANTASTIC area for autocross if you are so inclined. Ft. Meade is such soft duty !!!!!!!!!!!!! About the only thing going on there is the NSA. The Washington/Baltimore corridor is pretty densely populated and pretty expensive. Being a native of suburban Maryland and living in Columbia (10 minutes west of Meade on MD. 32) I envy you your new duty assigment but DON'T envy your upcoming experience with the traffic. The good news is that you won't have to drive very fair to get ANYTHING you want.

Welcome back stateside, and thanks for your service.

The good news is, you can fill the "Active Duty Guy" void down at Joe's.  They'll just have to get over the fact that your in the Army.

Thanks, all.

Small correction, though, Def... I'm in the AF.

This will be my third time at Meade.  Spent 5 years there so far - so I'm quite familiar with the area and traffic.  In a way, it'll be like going back home.  My first tour there was where I got into AutoX... they used to run events about once a month on the Colony 7 lot right by NSA.  That was over after 9/11, though.  By the time I got back, I had to go to FedEX field to get my fix.

As for the TMAP sensors... hopefully Lyndon can get things hammered out early this spring.  One way or another, if we don't have a better source by April, I'll put together a group buy.  I'll just ship them through USPS, though, instead of putting them in my luggage.  That might look suspicious to customs :)

You are in the USAF and going to Ft. Meade. Not too hard to guess where your desk will be!!! Don't know when the last time you were over at the west end of Base, but boy has it changed. The airport is a civilain field now, and boy have the traffic patterns changed coming in from RT's 32 and 198. Anne Arundel County is no longer cheap housing! But the food is still great in Annapolis and Baltimore.  What a gravy tour you have coming up!!!!!!!!!!!

Right at an Hour from Gambrills where I live to Joe's.  Ben L is heavy into AutoX and I think a bunch of us might give it a shot this summer.  The run at Bowie Stadium (rt 50/301).  This area has really built up, how long ago were you here?

My bad, I was basing that from where you're stationed and where you're going.  The Air Force is slightly more tolerable thanks to Whip!   :D

Anyway, I hope you're handy with a buffer.  That's the role of the "Active Duty Guy" in that part of the country.  All the retiree's have bad backs or are just too plain lazy to clean their cars themselves!  :woohoo:

I was at Meade from Jun '97 to Jun '99 and again from Jun '02 to Aug '05.  I spent three years in Hawaii in between.  Yes, all of my assignments have been hardship :)  I ordered my first Solstice from Covington Pontiac in Silver Spring (wonder if they're still there?) and picked it up at Butts Pontiac in Monterey, CA.

Butts... there's a license plate frame that didn't stay on very long!

I was most recently at Meade for a week-long TDY in Feb/Mar '07.

Guess I'll have to pick up a 7424 (or is there a different model I should consider) and baptise myself into the church of Poor Boys World if I want to hang out at Joe's VFW post ;)

You will be close to Critterman and myself.  If you can survive the initiation, you can join our local group.

You will have to acquire a live chicken, two ducks, box of depends and a pair of checkered pants.   I will give you more details and instructions when you get here.

I thought it was an industrial vaccuum, a large jar of Jiff Extra-Crunchy peanutbutter, and 10,000 grey squirrels...

Between you, Dark Tech, Chuckdoc, Cheers, Morfious Critterman, lil goat, whip and myself, There's probably been close to that much spent on PBW in the past 2 years.  Well, maybe closer to half of that...

Now if we could only get Critterman to use some of it....
