Bought a ContourGPS
« on: September 26, 2011, 11:23:00 AM »
REAL nice camera. After having issues with my GoPro (and knowing a lot of folks unhappy with the newer HDs) I decided on a Contour. The reason for the GPS model was that there is a free app for my Droid phone to become a viewfinder and link for configuration changes. The video is very good, and the sound is more clear than GoPros. Here is a recent video. The conditions were VERY wet, and I was running on sticker Hoosier H2O wets, so I was a bit tentative. http://s102.photobucket.com/albums/m120/snaponbob/Sky/?action=view&current=FILE0007.mp4

Wow, very nice video Bob, it shows very well what autocross means even for newbies like me from other side of the pond who never saw a real AutoX race, THANK YOU

I know the sound from GoPro is weak because the camera is enclosed in a hard plastic case but don't know about other issue?
Owner review is golden!!

Really cool! Much better sound!  Can you also add G force and throttle like I have seen some do?  What is the Droid app?

Wish we had a nice course like that - was it at an airport?

Great looking course, looks like you didn't have any traction problems at all.  Camera was very clear.  You need to work on your neck muscles, you looked like a bobbing head doll.  :)

@ treeman --- not sure what all the actual GPS function will do, but I think you are thinking about more sophisticated video and data acquisition systems. The Droid app can be linked from Contour's web site. There is also and iPhone app, but an optional card needs to be purchased for the camera. The location is a street grid police driving center. I did the course design. When it's DRY, it is really a hoot, and some of my courses have had high pucker factors!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@ critterman ---- Plenty of traction issues. Watch the boost gauge (left side of the dash) and listen to the revs jump. The head jerking was because the car was jerking real hard. When the car was getting sideways and I jumped off the gas, the tires hooked, and the car jerked. Normally I wear a horse collar, but did not that day. The Kirkey seat  has me body tightly secured, so the only part that is unrestrained is my head. When the pavement is dry, my head doesn't flop so much.
