2012 NASSM Fixins & Squeezins
« on: June 06, 2012, 03:54:23 PM »
You'ns iz in for a treat with AUTHENTIC fixins & squeezins at NASSM 2012.

The time is 6 PM to 8 PM Thursday.

We will have by donation; complimentary Ramps, Scrambled Eggs, Poached Mountain Trout, Corn Pone and some legal “White Lightning” with revelations and discussions of the of the folk lore and truth that is stranger than fiction in these parts durin an after supper.

These are not ramps one drives on. They are Allium tricoccum (new Latin). Speakin of this New Latin, in these parts, there be mountain folk in hiding who speak what we call “Old Latin” and Old English. Most refer to this relative of the wild leek as the reaky leek, the terrible trillium, the awful onion and the terrible tuber.

Children have been sent home for eating raw Ramps and coming to school with the pungent and noxious remains of this gassy tuber on their breath and person. Hound dogs abandon the hearths of one room cabins rather than endure such noxious torture. We will have a” lay about” hound at the hearth for temperance.

Corn Likker mash has a distinct odor resembling fresh baked cornbread. Just so you can come close to experiencin "cookin corn," in the wild, we're offern up corn pone (corn bread), fresh baked by people of Appalachia and served from cast Iron skillets whose age is simply recorded as it was mommas or hit was Granny’s.
