Topic: Fighting spam with your help

Spam is a constant problem when running any forum and Kappa Performance is no exception. On almost a daily basis we have to deal with spammers that are constantly trying to join the forum and one of them got so far as to be able to post a message on the forum this evening.

We deleted it and the spammer won't be back but we need your help. If you see that a spammer has posted on the forum, please take a moment to report it to a moderator. Click on the Report to Moderator in the forum post window and let us know.

We aren't on here ALL the time, well almost...

That's be awesome, thanks! Reporting a post to a moderator sends all of the moderators and administrators an email so we can care care of it if we aren't on the forum at the time.

Was that spammer a hacker? Just asking because his spam post posted on the boards. Usually they're moderated until they can prove to you that they are not some kind of a nut case, right?

Just asking. I feel safe here unlike a few other forums and want to stay safe. I sure kept clear of those links he posted. You never know. And, the english was very strange, like someone was using a translator or something..

I don't know spelling looked OK maybe it was the word redundancy.

ENTX I don't think new members post here are monitored like they do on other forums, or at least they weren't when I joined (there were only about a dozen members back then).  I think they take precautions to try and make sure spamers can't join.  For the most part they have done an outstanding job.

Think of a spammer as the internets telemarketers.  Their only purpose is the try and sell you something after they've interrupted you peaceful day/evening.

Correct, we don't monitor first posts.  I employ other features to reduce most spammers from reaching the site.

Well, I didn't know that. But..I DO know y'all are doing a great job here. This is a very very good forum. I've learned so much, it ain't funny. My spouse says "HUH"?? when I tell him about mods, repairs etc. I am the motorhead in the family. Love cars, love THIS car I have now, and am always interested in learning and this is THE place for it, isn't it?

Wow, made my day Bob!  Very funny indeed and yes Monty Python is a master and I had tears in my eyes as well because my grand-ma-ma used to serve spam to me way back in the day and hated the stuff with a passion so when I saw your post was curious enough to bite.  Well done and my English ancestors loved the stuff, just glad that the Scots and Germans did not!  I would never indeed serve spam to my grand-daughters and grand-sons!  And another reason, the word itself is offensive indeed cause spamer4s are root of evil on this great forum, uh, sorry if I offended anyone with this post because some might like the stuff, carry on...........
