WTB: "oh shit" handle
« on: May 19, 2013, 03:14:23 PM »
Looking for what is affectionately known as the "oh shit!" handle for the Solstice. My car is a GXP but as long as the handle is black it'll be the same, my handle's a little torn up. I was wondering if someone has a spare in excellent condition that they'd be willing to part with.

Seems like time for a JPM mod.

Bob, I have one that I was keeping as a spare to maybe mod some day.  If yours is just a case of the vinyl being torn, I'll swap you for it.  Could it wait til the meet?

Bob, I went through my parts store to find the handle.  I do have it, and the leatherette is in perfect condition, BUT I only have the plastic core and vinyl covering handle part taken off the metal mounting/support bar.  Funny - I could've sworn I had the whole piece!

We can still swap (you take your handle off, and I'll give you mine to replace it) but I wanted to let you know because you'll probably want to glue it back together and you might prefer to get the whole assembly somewhere else. (Note: The handle does clip back together nicely, but it's easy to unclip again, hence the possible need for some drops of epoxy in the tabs, to reinforce.)

Photos...

Interesting... I wonder if I should try to pop this one apart and see if I can fix it. Here's a picture, look at the lower right hand corner where it meets the plastic.

Oh my God Bob(bie)(y)(why) ((pick one)).  I just saw your OSH.  That is a safety hazard.  Park the vehicle.  Do not drive it.  Call a hazmat team in to bag the car and properly dispose of it.  Take yourself and anyone who has been in the vehicle in the past 5 years to the nearest hospital and report to the morgue.

You can buy Vinyl repair stuff.  Just a coupla dabs and you won't even see that!  Don't need to take it apart, just take the handle off.

I was expecting a major tear :)

I know it's not bad and I'm probably a little anal but it bugs me. Heck, I don't even see it from the drivers seat but the wife saw it a pointed it out. I have to see what I can do to fix it but a replacement would have been an easy fix.   :tool:

You can still swap with mine if you like.  I'd be taking the vinyl off anyway.
