Norms SKY Coupe Hardtop News
« on: May 28, 2013, 08:14:28 AM »
Visited and picked up a part from Norm's this past week, and happy to report he is continuing to make progress on the coupe hardtop.  He had  one coupe shell sitting on the widebody he continues to work on, however the real news is a customer is having him modify a second coupe mold to fit onto their SKY.

The Sol coupe hardtop has to be modified to fit the SKY decklid and taillights, but just seeing the coupe hardtop sitting on the SKY gave an idea of how sweet it's gonna look when done.

Yep, Norm said something about the SKY coupe spoiler has to be extended further than the Sol coupe spoiler?  Trust, pics DO NOT do it justice, plus it amps up the the exotic factor.

Norm was modifying a Sols hardtop to fit on a customers regular SKY (i.e no race car).  Issue last being discussed on BB was what would the Sol hardtop cost be considering the OEM rear glass window is $875 (side windows will probably be Plexiglas's).  Unless Norms planes on making two molds the Sky's is always going to be more expensive because he will have to charge for modifying the Sol coupe hardtop to fit on any SKY.

But If a separate SKY hardtop mold was being considered I think the rear side window should be redesigned in keeping with the Sky's edgier looks; similar to what EDAG did on the one and only hardtop they produced for it.

Norms making the fastback (coupe) style, and as I said when I was there last week modifying it to fit onto someone SKY.  But yeah, it will look similar to the Falken fastback drifter.  On Norms, an exposed thin fiberglass B pillar is curved so it will seal with the verts curved side window glass.

On the OEM coupe version the B pillar is integrated and covered with the side back window glass.

I was saying I didn't think the Sol coupe side windows matched the edgier SKY lines.

EDAG only produced one SKY Shooting Brake hardtop (i.e station wagon).  And around 80-120 Solstice Shooting Brake hardtops (I have one).  A place called RevengeDesign.com bought the EDAG inventory and discounted them to around $450 (original price was $2499).  However, RD wouldn't move on the SKY price much due to it being one-off.  BTW, EDAG uses genuine glass on the side and for the rear opening back hatch.  Basically, they turn the cars into mini Nomads.  Most have a love or hate it type reaction.

Looks awesome primered up. Is it possible to have the spoiler cover the rest of the lights? Like the edges? Just looks a little incomplete from certain angles with just the top corners sticking out.

Hello, very good point that has bothered me from the beginning. On the Falcon Drift car this was addressed by the entire top going over the quarter fenders, this works for a one off though it adds height and looks somewhat floppy from the front. This is one reason why GM went over partially the rear taillights themselves. One solution that I thought of was to have body color vinyl over the top of the tail lights, similar to eye lids for the front headlights. Thanks Norm

Thatd probably work out the best and easiest solution to it.
