08 redline automatic transmission issue
« on: May 30, 2013, 04:03:07 AM »
Have an odd issue with the auto trans, sometimes when I launch the car from a dead stop the car will rev to about 7k rpm in first gear hang there for about 4 seconds before shifting into second gear. It's random when it happens as sometimes it shifts just fine. Car does not do this in any other gear just first to second. Just wondering if this issue has happened to anyone else as I have tried searching but to no avail.

A) get your TCM tuned.

B) if your TCM is tuned, see A.

I can't help but think though that with the symptoms you describe there are other issues at play here.

Yeah, a tune may just exacerbate whats going on with it. I would pull the positive and negative battery terminals, touch them together (the wires, not battery terminals) to clear out any residual power anywhere (and yes its safe to do), then let it sit for about 10min. Maybe a good reset would get things back to normal.

Still having this issue, tried two new camshaft sensors but didnt cure it. Also tried disconnecting the battery but the symptoms are still there. Launch the car and it acts like its going to shift from 1st to 2nd but boost drops to 0psi hangs for about 2 seconds with engine still wound up then shifts. Only does this from 1st to 2nd, any ideas guys?

Have you changed your trans fluid (get your mind out of the gutter Kelu) recently or for that matter checked to see what the level is?

This is the first I have heard of this problem.  My '08 has had (has) its share of problems but not this one.  Thank  God.http://www.kappaperformance.com/forum/Smileys/default/blackcloud.gif

Also another time while launching the car i had what sounded like misfiring and engine light started flashing but shifted into second gear with 21 psi and felt strong. Just confused as to why this would only happen from 1st to 2nd.

Traction control?

If you are breaking traction when shifting the TC will do that. Turn your nannies off.

It has been a while and I could be mistaken, but I think I have heard of this issue before.  A software reflash was required.  Can't remember what year or if I really remember this happening.  Might be worth looking into.

That sounds like you hit the rev limiter.

If Critter is remembering correctly and there is some sort of software issue it could be that the trans is not shifting properly stays in the lower gear too long and you over rev.  Given your other post that says it revs to about 7K and I think the rev limiter is at like 6.5K sounds like this could be your issue.

A couple things I would check -

Clean your MAF sensor - they tend to get dirty on these cars. The MAF sensor tells the ECM how much air is coming into the engine and is also used by the TCM for shifting. If you have not cleaned it lately, go to any auto parts stores and buy some "MAF cleaner". This can also cause the mis-fires that you reported also.

Do you have an aftermarket intake? - If you have an aftermarket intake (other than GMPP or K&N) it can cause issues with shifting on the automatic cars. Especially when the seasons change, and especially if the MAF is dirty.

You can check the level in the automatic transmission, but it is kinda a pain. You have to have the car on a lift, remove the belly pan under the transmission. There is a fill plug that is almost right against the body of the car that you remove. If the fluid is up to the level of the plug you are good to go. That is also how you refill the transmission. Not easy, but it can be done.

Hope that helps.
