Do you always use "Top Tier" gas in the Kappa?
« on: June 01, 2013, 04:02:46 PM »
I use top tier gas in all my cars, I have since before buying the Solstice. There is a Shell just a few blocks from the house. What are you putting in your tank?

Ultra 94 .....99% of the time. I have a Petro Canada right across the street from my home. If I use Shell ( which is my second preferred choice) I go with V power which I think is 91 or 92 octane. Bottom line, highest octane and most expensive gas is how I roll.

Yeah I've always felt it's worth a few pennies more to have clean gas in the tank.

Almost always for both cars.   If I'm out of town and not near a Shell it's hard to remember where to go.

Not anymore, I think Top Tier Gas is half a hoax.  The last several years, I've been buying gasoline from, in the beginning, Costco and now I buy this grocery store brand; in both cases the highest octane-rating (93 combined) and in all cases due to pricing, i.e. cheaper.  There is no problem related to fuel quality or octane requirement with any of my vehicles, including the Solstice GXP which has the GM "Stage II Turbo Upgrade".

Yes in the GXP (though it requires more planning due a Shell station being several miles away).
No, on the 2.4.  Regular gas station outnumber top-tier gas stations in our city about 10 to 1.

I prefer to put low quality gas with about a quarter tank of diesel. It keeps everything well lubricated and make "smokey" burn outs simple.

Yes, for the turbo and for shelf life.  My Volt recommends premium because it lasts longer in the tank (haven't bought gas for it since February and still have half a tank).  Since the Solstice sits quite a bit between drives, especially in winter, she gets premium.

I've been using non-ethanol 92, since I found a couple small stations that offer it.  It's not top-tier, but my car seems to like it.

Top Tier Premium Indeed in the 2000 Lincoln Navigator and our early build 2007 Pontiac Solstice GXP...except for Carols car, our 1998 green Mercury Villager that we purchased new way back in 1998 and believe it or not...ah, the tale could be in ripley's, it just hit 234,000 miles on regular grade yesterday...never a drop of premium!  So, top tier gas is great gas but her green van has made it without using a drop of Top Tier!  Now, don't hold a Kangeroo Court but that is the whole truth so help me God!  :brnout:  :us2:

Many of the companies on that list are distributors.  The 'no-name' brand gas stations (like Wallymart, etc) get their gas from these distributors.  Unfortunately no way to know what distributor(s) those gas stations get their supply from.  So they may have 'top tier' gas, they may not.

Plus the variance from one Sams/Walmart to the next since they won't all use the same distributor nation wide.

FYI people Top Tier doesn't mean premium fuel, it is a standard for how the fuel is made and distributed.  If a station is Top Tier all their fuel is considered Top Tier even the lowest octane.
