Roll Bar Questions.
« on: July 06, 2013, 04:54:06 PM »
I was referred by a friend to your shop.

I have an 07 Solstice GXP convertible that is very close to 12s, NHRA track rules say I need a roll bar if I get to 13.499 or faster in a convertible, and I already ran 13.3 on street tires with Trifecta's budget tune, and have added a Solo 3" race exhaust since.

My questions are, can a Roll bar be installed properly in a day, and if so, could you PM me roughly how much will it cost?

Oh yeah, is there anything I need to remove from the car before coming if I choose to do this?

A day?

I'll chip in $10 if this can get done in one day. :)

A week?  Maybe.

A roll bar install is pretty involved and includes a lot of work that I can't see being able to complete in a day. Hopefully Dave at Werks will chime in on this.
Just trying to do my part...

Hello, it will take longer than a day. There are some things that you could do in advance though. Take out the interior, insulation will help speed up the process and cost too.

Then you will have to get our lightweight functional body panels.  Thanks Norm

Hello,

We can certainly build you a 4 point roll bar or even a 6 point roll bar for your Kappa.  Depending on options and finishes it can take a week to 2 weeks to build.  Shoot me a PM and I can break down the pricing and options for you, thanks!

Really don't have the ability to do 1-2 weeks without a car, thank you though.

A Roll bar is not something you half-ass.
If you want one that will be able to save your life when the time comes, you need to let the shop take their time and do it correctly.

Otherwise you are installing a bunch of metal clubs/spikes that can make a roll even worse.

Listen to Elff, he's actually used roll bars for their intended purpose and posted video to prove it.

Oh and never do something half-assed....do it full-assed or don't do it at all.

this is 100% correct... my 25.5 cage took months.....but I bet a million dollars if it was going to save my life it would

I didn't say I was going elsewhere, because I'm not, but this mod isn't in the near future since it can't be done in a day.

oh I wasent saying you were going elseware just saying that this isn't something that happens in a day and its definitely not something you rush. it takes a ton of time and trimming and fitting and cutting. it would be well worth your wait.

I have to ask, is a roll "bar" or a roll "cage" required?

So let me get this straight... you want to cage a car you use as a daily driver? You will definitely regret that decision after a week of getting in and out of it.

A bar is required at 13.499 and a roll cage is required at 11.499. Only in convertibles though. The hardtop requirements are lower.

roll bars don't have door bars like a 6 point or 8 point does

Cages don't necessarily have permanent door bars.

Dream20b...why don't you contact Werks as Dave has suggested and see what he says as far as install time? You're up in Lake Zurich and they are in Plainfield.  You aren't very far and the install time might be tolerable for you.  Worst case, since they are close, you could rent a car for a few days while they need yours for the install.

There are options that bolt the side pieces in place which are just as strong as a weld.
They use a total of 6 bolts for the attachment points.

For fast drag racing, go to a different strip or go to the days when the track is rented ;)

Yup...run over to Byron.  You can make one pass under 13.499!
