As the title states...everything I read online is replace and calibrate. As parts become harder to find for this car, it's not really a scalable solution over time. Replacement is already about $400 and only comes as a built-in cushion sensor combo.

I have not read anywhere that someone has bothered to diagnose the root cause of the issue. To me it seems like a loose or broken connector throwing a bad signal to the CAN bus and tripping the default error code. Granted the wiring and signals are rather complex as they're going to a can bus but I doubt the actual weight sensor is anything more than a pressure sensor not unlike a truck scale...in which case it can likely be fixed easily (though perhaps not without tearing it apart).

Btw my light popped this weekend :(

The root cause has been found and discussed. The sensor array in the passenger seat cushion rips partially through a circuit pathway. There have been attempts by a few of us to repair the sensor array, but to no avail. I have also tried to make a sensor bypass module. That too, failed. Page 16 and on give the most detail to the problem.

Like Helios said.  Done and dusted: http://www.solsticeforum.com/forum/f12/panssenger-airbag-sensor-75353/index6.html#post1126380

Thanks guys, did not find either of those threads thanks to a couple hundred threads on "why do I have air bag error". Got some reading to do...will probably try and fix myself because there's no loss here.

Mine is lit also for a couple of weeks, I asked at the service (not dealership) an electrician to have a look at the sensor and let me know if it needs replacement, I'm waiting the answer.
