E85 vs M5 Methanol? - on compound build
« on: October 24, 2013, 06:02:54 PM »
Ok, I need other people's opinions.

Personally, I never used E85 or M5 methanol on any of my cars.

I've only used race gas.

On my current compound turbo build, I'll be using the stock tank, with a secondary fuel cell.

We are still deliberating if we'll use E85 or  M5

I was thinking of just using regular gas 93 octane on the tank for DI injectors..........and M5 methanol on secondary fuel cell/port injectors

instead of E85 on both DI and PI.

what are your thoughts guys?

thanks!

I would go with whatever your tuner is comfortable putting in the car.

Personally I like E85. Cheap easy and makes power, however you shouldn't store it for long periods of time with the e85 sitting as it will gather water. (less probably with your sealed fuel cell assuming its vented with a check valve)

To be honest I could argue for methanol/ race gas as well as it will never have the storage issues. I would recommend using M1 if you plan to use meth. Not the mad chemist mix of washer fluid and all that mad scientist stuff.

I am sure either will work well in your application assuming your lines and pumps are E85 capable.

BTF already built and tune compound turbos for diesel trucks, but not on non-diesel engines.    That's why I preferred him to do this compound build.  Its his first time to tune a non-diesel compound set-up tho....

For regular turbo cars......He is comfortable using both E85 and Methanol.

Last year, He prefers methanol at first for my build and me too.
But now that I have an E85 station near me.......and BTF tuning tons of E85 and saw wonders.......he likes E85 now too.

Then last night while we were talking, he's back with M5 again. lol

he said, we'll try E85 first............then M5 on the dyno tuning.

I was just wondering......if people have tried a back to back test here.....and already saw some conclusive results.
