Dave O'Connor will know.  Do a search on either the Sol or Sky side.  He has a list showing the breakdown for Kappas built.  I believe the Daewoo's are on it also.

No Daewoos on my list, well, to be perfectly honest, all the Daewoos are on my list, they're just identified as Saturn Skys, not as Daewoos.    When GM reported production figures, they reported the Daewoos as Skys, as the only differences were in the badging.  The Opel GTs were reported as Opel GTs because there were internal and external differences from the Saturn Skys.

So, long story short, nobody today knows precisely how many Daewoo G2Xs were built, nor do they know exactly how many Saturn Skys were built.  I'm sure there is someone who worked at Wilmington that knows the answer, but I've never seen a number posted anywhere.

Note that this does not mean that no one has ever posted that number, only that I've never seen it or written it down.

Regardless, There were very few Daewoos made, probably less than 500, which is a pure guesstimate on my part.

THAT'S why I can't find it, forgot about that. Thanks Dave.     You might see if you can find Korean sales figures for the G2x Maarten, that would give you some idea.

I don't know how to answer that, but I suppose it is a possibility.  I don't know if the Daewoos had different VIN numbers.   Solstices start with 1G2, Skys with 1G8, Opels with 1G0.

Probably.  Sounds like you can't tell from the VIN so unless you can get a history as to where the car was sold, you wouldn't know.

This is my guess as well.  Of if you could somehow get your hands on the build sheet.  Gotta be a way to find out which way they were badged.  But it's not promising if Dave doesn't have the numbers!  I thought he had all the numbers, right down to the color of the 2010's!

Here's something we could try...throw it out on the big boards and see if someone owns one.  Seems like there was one guy on there that had one.  If you could get ahold of him, he could help out with the VIN info and compare notes.  Then we could tell if there is an identifier in the VIN.  I haven't checked the forums yet, but I'm guessing the info isn't posted.

That would work, you'd have to scan the results for the RPO which stood for the "conversion to Daewoo".  Maybe I have a reference to that RPO somewhere. If I do I'll edit this post to include it.

OK, I found it.  There is an identifier in the VIN.

I pulled this off a post on the Sky Side:

"According to the VIN decoder site, for model year 2008, there were 120 Skys built with these codes :

DRX - MODEL CONVERSION DAEWOO DAEWOO(DRX)
CW1 - COUNTRY KOREA(EXPORT) KOREA(CW1)

I suspect that means that there were 120 Daewoo Kappas for 2008."

Way to go!  Not an identifier in the VIN, but those are the RPO option codes I was looking for.  Too bad Compnine doesn't show all those codes any more.

The only other possibility is if you pull the VIN sheets for 2008, you see Saturn has 2 VIN Codes:
1G8, W08

Oh wait...I just saw a post from a G2X owner on the HPTuners forum.  There is definitely something unique to the VIN:

Now we can answer this question.   Sky VINs start with 1G8, Opel VINs start with 1G0, and Daewoo VINs start with 5GD.

As to how many were made, I have seen a picture from one of the Wilmington plant tours that specified that there were 153 Daewoos produced during that current year.  I'm pretty sure that included the 120 that were identified in one of the posts in this thread, as the people at Wilmington were apt to refer to the calendar year as the current year, so that 153 probably crossed over a model year boundary. No one really knows, at least no one who hangs out on the forums.
