I got my letter Safety Recall from GM today ... for my 2007 GXP.
I see that GM is now offering a loaner to anyone that doesn't want to drive their car until the parts come in and $500 towards a new GM car if they don't want it fixed at all. Gotta be a catch in this but I don't know what it is. I can't imagine you turn over a 2007 Kappa for a $500 rebate but you still need to fix it to drive it...
I always wanted to be somebody when I grew up - I realize now that I should have been more specific!!

http://autos.aol.com/article/department-of-justice-investigation-general/?icid=maing-grid7%7Cmain5%7Cdl26%7Csec1_lnk1%26pLid%3D453367

Excerpt of the 7 & 8 paragraph
Among other things, that legislation created the Early Warning Reporting system within the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, a system that safety advocates say should have alerted authorities to deadly problems far earlier. GM filed at least 51 death reports via the Early Warning Report system between 2004 and 2012, according to The Center for Auto Safety, yet no recall came.

Documents show that General Motors was aware of problems with the ignition switch in the Chevrolet Cobalt, Pontiac G5, Saturn Ion and several other models as early as 2004 – before the cars were even sold to the public. NHTSA was aware of the problem as early as 2007, according to records. But no cars were recalled until last month.

(Kind of makes you wonder if GM had ulterior motives for promoting Mary Barra to CEO.)

Huh? If its a recall (covered by GM), why would you need it to be covered under a warranty?

If you have a MY that's not under the recall, then I can guarantee the warranty won't cover it either.

You are talking about the switch? The issues with the '06 and '07 model year doesn't affect the '08s so they won't change it if you aren't having an issue but hey, can't hurt to ask.

Received mine yesterday.

BTW, what happens to all cars that don't have current owners registered or are on used car lots?

It's always been my understanding that it's up to the owner to make sure GM has their correct address. As far as the used cars sitting on the lot at "Crazy Bill's Used Cars", I'm not sure what happens.

I know that there are a lot of cars out there from many manufacturers that have outstanding recalls that have never been done. According to this article, "At least 1.4 million used cars that were recalled but not repaired were for sale in 2009."

http://usedcars.about.com/od/avoidingproblems/a/Buying-A-Used-Car-With-A-Recall-Notice.htm

Scary... If you are buying ANY used car make sure there are no outstanding recalls but I think most people, at least most people here, already knows that.

I was wondering that.  Wouldn't they get it through the dealer?

Actually, I know they do.  I get their ads for Buicks in the mail and they are addressed to me.  They definitely know where I live.

Carfax will tell you if the used car you are looking at has a recall pending against it.  So most used car dealers know that people will request the Carfax and get the recalls taken care of before putting the car up for sale.

You guys seen this? Gives details of the differences between the old and the part that has the issue. Have a look at the article and the pictures there.

Fawk!!! GM too?!?! It's bad enough I had one stalker for several years,  now I have another?
Oh well. At least they don't call me and have me and my family followed!  They only send me Buick mailings and recall notices.
