Just passing this new info along, I have no association with the below business. The below was recently posted to one of the Kappa Groups. I'm assuming that the only reason to buy this for V8 transplant is that's it's cheaper to use your OEM manual, then having to spend extra money for a T56/TR6060?

Seems logical.  The claim that an AR5 is good for 700 lb*ft seems hard to believe

I find that hard to believe as well, TR6060's are good in stock form to 650...and you don't see anyone swapping from a T56 to an AR5...

It's probably fine for 700 if you're only cruising around and not actually *using* the car.

Kinda what I was thinking.  Provided you're still rolling the stock 245/45 R-18 crap-tastic RSAs, 700 is no problem

Well....didn't the Mallets use the AR5 transmission?  Did those have issues with the transmission blowing up?

Per wikipedia: The AR-5 is a 5-speed manual transmission manufactured by Aisin. It is designed for longitudinal engine applications and can handle up to 260 ft·lbf (353 N·m) of torque based on existing applications.    You make the call.   But yes, if you didn't opt in for a better transmission, Mallett reused the AR5.

Well....didn't the Mallets use the AR5 transmission?  Did those have issues with the transmission blowing up?

Has anyone blown up an AR5?  Word is the syncros go out and some guys call that a failed transmission, I am more wondering if metal has cracked in one though.

They were pretty picky about customers opting to use any of the base Solstice driveline with anything but a stock LS2. I was considering keeping the 3.91 rear end with an LS3 and was very specifically told that Mallett wouldn't warranty the rear end, unless I took the CTS-V rear end upgrade.
(They were using the CTS-V ones, you could tell, because the yoke is different than the 3-bolt yoke from the non-V CTS and Kappas.)

I can say....There are a lot of people who put a lot of power through their redlines and gxp's that still have the stock transmission.  The trifecta e-47 tune has made 320 whp and close to 400 ftlbs of torque before.  I never heard of any of those folks blowing up transmissions....Just clutch issues....

Just because that is what's listed it doesn't mean it was truly tested to hold more power.  Hell my base trifecta makes more TO THE WHEELS than the stated limit of the AR-5, and I have tons of track runs and general lead footedness with a very harsh Spec stage 3 (6 puck) clutch and a lightweight flywheel.  I've had NO problems with the transmission (knock on wood).  That should say something right there about the stated AR-5 limitations!

Unfortunately, since Aisin no longer makes the AR-5 transmission, it has been removed from their web site. Therefore, I'm stuck with whatever historians are willing to publish when searching for specs.  If you have better, official numbers, post away, I won't argue.

I'm not arguing that it's official specs...im just saying that it's strange the specs are so low but people arent granading transmissions right and left.

If you can't get the rear end to hook up with the road then the trans isn't getting all the stress the over the limit HP would be causing.  And we all know rear traction is a problem on the kappa with stock power so big HP is no better.

Still quite possible to snap bits of the original driveline with RSAs.
