Topic: P0014/P0013 issues

I have an '07 GXP and it threw a 0014 code last week. I replaced the actuator and it's now showing a 0013 code. I'm thinking I have a wiring connector issue. If I were to put a meter on the connector while running, what should I be able to measure ? Is there a voltage I should be looking for and if so, which pin ? Any help is appreciated.

Thanks for the info. So a quick update. The solenoid that i removed from the car last week (with the p0014 code) gave me 12.2 ohms across the terminals. The new one gives me 10.8. I'm assuming that these readings would reflect a "good" solenoid. The timing chain and solenoids were done a year ago along with the water pump. Do you think, i'm facing a failed guide or tensioner on the timing chain ? I hate to think that this is the case.

How many miles on it and do you have a tune?  You can pull the valve cover and check to see if the timing chain is loose and if it's been wearing the top guide

I have 109k, it's a sunny day car, so only a thousand or so miles on it since the work last year. Is there any way to check the timing chain slack without removing the valve cover ?

Quick update. I ended up replacing the connector and all is well. I'll end up replacing that harness in the future. Thanks for the insight.

Removing of the valve cover isn't difficult.  I don't know of any other way to check for slack.  It will be plainly obvious if it's loose and the bracket on top between the cams has a polyurethane piece on it that could be worn off causing a wine when the chain rubs the bare metal under loads

Thanks. I ended replacing both the solenoid and the connector. So I'm back on the road. I still have some tidying up to do with the wiring harness, but no codes so far. Keeping fingers crossed. Thanks for  the advice. This group is the best !

Well, I thought I was done with this, but evidently not.. I think my P0014 code is caused by poor oil pressure. My dipstick shows full and when I pull the exhaust[attach=1] valve solenoid it has oil on it. But now I'm hearing this. What am I hearing ? and how much damage have I done. Any opinion is appreciated

Doesn't sound good, check for clearance on your timing chain.  You'll need to pull the cover.  If it's loose, it has like caused a valve to hit a piston.  These are zero clearance engines. 

See if the teflon strip is on the chain guide

So we pulled the valve cover and the timing chain seems to be nice and tight and from what we could see all the guides are good. The exhaust cam is slightly out of alignment. My  buddy (an experienced kappa mechanic and kappa enthusiast) thinks it may be the actuator. What do the kappa experts say ? Again any opinion is valued. Thanks.

So here's the update. The phaser/pully failed only being a year old. In so much that it bent the key. I'll have a better look at it on Tuesday after the install of a new exhaust cam. Anyone ever seen this ?

Did that dowel pin bend or did the hole deform?

That's a great question. I'm not sure how to make that determination. That was replaced this time last year as part of the timing chain replacement from Cloyes. I'll send them pictures today to see what they say.

In my experience dowels don't bend they crack and break.  Were any of the bolts broken or loose?

I don't know. I'll know more tomorrow when I'm able to put my hands on it. For the key to bend like that, it must be (have been) under alot of stress.
