New RPI GT Exhaust
« on: March 12, 2009, 07:19:56 PM »
This weekend  I installed the RPI GT exhaust I ordered just after Christmas. It took a very long time to get it, but that is another story.  Here are a few pics.  Wish I didn't have to work this week as I really would like to get some miles on it.  Oh, and yeah, it sounds really good too!

Looks nice...is there a way to adjust the tips inward a little?  Just curious.

Sweet looking exhaust.  We need a sound bite.    It appears your right tip needs to be adjusted down a little.

Agreed...I have heard the exhaust sounds great!  I agree with deep about the right tip, but it could just be the camera angle.  The system itself looks really nice.  I happen to like the tips farther in towards the car, but everyone has their own likes and displikes and I am sure there are people who like the tips extended outward a bit more as in your pictures.  Nice work!

That looks great!  Did it take you long to install it and is there a particular reason for going with RPI?  I don't know that I've heard of them but that's why I love this forum, I get to learn a lot!

It's gotta be the angle because they both come out the same, straight out, slash down.  I am not crazy about how far they stick out.  :( This is the best I could get considering.  This was not one of my better purchasing experience. :gaah:  If you look on their website, you'll see RPI no longer sells an exhaust for the Solstice - only the Sky/Opel.  It seems to me they basically scrounged mine up.  Long story short, I'm going to have to take the tips off and cut them back about 2 inches when I find the time and a welder. They do sound nice though and are really well made.

They have "Exhaust repair kits" at autozone/kragen etc.  No need to weld, just cut the sleeve that they give you and use 2 Heavy Duty exhaust/muffler clamps which you can buy at autozone/kragen also....

Sorry, I just couldn't do that to an exhaust on my car.  No Offense intended  :idk: Especially for one as nice looking as the RPI.

Ok, I spoke to Dave today and he saw the pictures on the other forum.  The tips were made incorrectly because they test fit them on a car with a custom valance.  He is going to make up a new set based on my measurements and a picture I sent him earlier this morning.  Hopefully all will be good early next week

True true, but it's very cost effective ;)  The exhaust wont be seen anyway.  But yeah, you could've just done it as a temporary thing while you find a welder.

But yeah, im glad you're getting this fixed and getting the correct parts :)

That's great to hear!

This is, by far, my favorite exhaust.... and perfect for that trunk extension i keep dreaming of.

idkfa,
Was think of the same thing, I already have a sketch drawing of what I like to do. My rough out line is, 1) the exhaust, it will be like NASCAR. I have my own muffler design. That I had patent attorney check it out, & gave it the   The exhaust will exit in front of the right rear tire. 2) Then cut out the trunk bottom. Bolt in some support straps to the frame. Slide in the custom made fiberglass tube in. Right now I'm thinking, it would hang as low as the bottom of the OEM muffler. Bolt it to the straps & seal it with that black automotive seal / adhesive.

Pipe dream would be a motor or air adjustable floor plate.  It's a lot of work, like to max out depth, but if I can't reach the bottom. Won't do me no good.

Werks sell one as an install only.  It adds an extra 1.7cf of space to the trunk.  While I was installing the GT exhaust you see the extra space it clear up for this option. I really like the look of the dual exhausts coming off the main pipe. That is the main reason I purchased the RPI. That and the sound.

That cool, didn't know. I have to check it out.  I was thing the exhaust out the side. To keep has much heat from get into the trunk. The OEM puts out, a lot of heat in there.  Plus I can make a real simple rear support beam. Without worrying about the exhaust.

Thanks, Mike

The GT Exhaust is actually away from this area.  If you look at my first pictures, the exhaust is forward of the gas tank.  The tail pipes come around and go on either side of where the extension would be.  Anyway, I notice you are from the Southern Tier of NY.  Where abouts?  I went to High School about an hour north of Binghamton.  My folks still live up there.  Man, I went to a lot of concerts in the Arena during the late 70s through early 80s.
