I have always thought it was illegal in NY until recently.  There actually is no code in the lawbooks regarding this.

Never noticed this thread before, but I have these Piloti shoes and I like them apart from the fact that after wearing them as my everyday shows for a few months, they've already worn through the sole at the heel. Very disappointed in that. But now they will be car only shoes.

I use mine daily, and can attest to the fact that the soles wear out way too quickly. They are really comfy though...

I'm gonna try DC's driving shoes next, they look pretty nice, and are more appropriate for everyday use. (they're not wild colors)

ok, I am sorry to have to ask, but I have never had a pair of driving shoes.  Could someone explain the benifit?  I understand there must be some design differences, much like golf shoes are designed different than soccer shoes.  What do you all feel / see as the benifits?  Do you feet get less tired?  Do they grip the pedals better?  Not trying to be :kwh:  I just don't know.

Biggest plus IMO is the rolled heels. With regular shoes your foor kinda pivots any which way on the shoe heel, for me this really got tiring.

The Piloti's I have needed a lot of break in time before being touchy feely. I bought them a few days before a track event, and had a hard time feeling what was going on down there.

I'm going to try to get some wrestling shoes because they are basically the same as racing shoes and less money.

Great idea Kenny, this is what I have:

I have them for 2-3 years and they still look great. I love the fact they are thin so my big feet (size:12) has no issues in that small area, they are great driving and a pain walking on rough surfaces.

Under $50 shipped is NOT a lot of money IMHO.

Kelu, you are so lucky to have size 12 shoes!  However the blue and white driving shoes seem to be very high in the heel?  They do appear in the picture you provided to be extremely flexible and that would be a very good thing comfort-wise, but does the flexability cause a problem in control?  I have always used a pair of sneakers for their support and also comfort.

Now, my situation is a bit more critical than yours.  You see Kelu, I have only one pair of driving shoes that I regularly use.  I am a size 15 D, however the driving shoes I use are New Balance 852, size 15 2E and I use them because they are the smallest in structure from the other New Balance Athletic shoes I own and I have grown used to the support they give in stiffness.  This thread has my interest aroused.

Thanks for your post.  I may inquire into these driving shoes.

I meant as an alternative for high top racing shoes, not normal driving shoes. The racing shoes are usually over 100 bucks.

Check out the Otomix brand shoes.  They make great workout/kickboxing/yoga shoes.  I had a pair that lasted many years and were super comfortable.
