First just go ahead and get the Wester's updates are free, if you have a 2007 he has an ECM he can swap with you (it's my spare). I don't think pulling the stock cat is a very good idea on a stock set up, but from my experiance it seems to go richer not leaner, that is just perception not fact. I wish it would stop freaking raining so I can test this tune.
As far as louder, not much really sounds better to me but not a lot louder, I think it gets louder when you get in it but can't really tell yet. It is a lot quieter that a Street Race with the stock cat, no highway drone, I can still hear the stereo.
It seems as best I can tell to spool up faster, I just keep spinning the tires cause of the wet roads, more so than before with the cat so I have to say it does increase performance.

Jeff, I did the same and after four drive cycles it threw a cat efficiency code (predictable). But , WOW the power did not decrease. But I now have a tune and the code is turned off. I have HPT and have my stock tune stored. If the car goes BANG the cat and tune will go back on. As for the burned valve issue on the Sol forum there may be a lot more under the tip of the iceberg about that situation. It's a long thread but there is the appearance "thou protests too much", if you catch my drift.

Hey Bob! Yes, I agree that the hurt engine in the other forum is a bigger story than what he is stating. The digging you guys did shows that a LOT of questionable things were being done to that car. I also do not believe pulling the cat will hurt a stock tuned car, and you just risk getting a trouble code....BUT, I just wanted to ask to be sure.

Hey Goat....I've got a 2009 2.0 car. I am waiting because I want to see how much more power Lyndon gets OVER the GMPP tune. I like the GMPP tune because it safeguards the turbo from being over-reved. I like the GMPP tune because I know it has a LOT more development time spent on it, so there is a better chance of it not having any "issues". Who knows if any of us will have a warranty in another 2 months (with GM bankrupcy!)! but to keep the warranty, with the Westers tune I really need to buy HP Tuners, -or- buy a second ECM, and that is another $500 on top of the tune cost.

So....I have to decide if the extra power of the Westers Tune will be enough to outweigh the extra cost involved, etc.

Here's one for you I know the guy that did the GMPP tune and Lyndon Wester. I met the guy who did the GMPP tune when he was tuning the Red Bull Solstice for Rhys Millen and the Gardella Solstice for Gary Gardella, he also tuned the GTO for Rhys and the 1400hp ecotec powered Red Bull Cobalt. He was the easiest guy to spot at any event, had on a Pontiac t-shirt shorts socks and sandals, always looked out of place. Heck of a nice guy and scary smart, looked like he should be in "Nerds go Racing".

I am not sure Lyndon has much for the 2009 anyway, he needs an ECM so he can check it out, but he did just announce he has a tune available for the 2010 Camaro.

Has the way GM deals with their sensors changed? I know when I had a syclone, a 2 bar sensor didn't actually read 2 bar of boost, rather 1 bar vacuum (-14.7psi to 0psi) and 1 bar of boost (0psi to 14.7psi). All this talk of the sensor being able to read 40+ psi seems extremely off to me. As I understand it, the stock sensors read 14psi of vac to ~25psi, and the new ones ~30psi.

I did not even think of that. For some reason, I thought the 2007 was different, but the 2008 and 2009 were the same. So, are you saying Lyndon does not offer any kind of a tune for the 2009s yet?

I think it is just a matter of him getting his hands on a 2009 ECM so he can see what changes were made, I know there are some because the GMPP kits for the 2009 were later to come out than the others.

Just to keep everyone informed he got hit with another bilzzard last night and I am testing a new tune with some special stuff in it, not just the cat delete. He told me to give it a least a week of everyday driving to learn before we make any accessments, I can tell you it is a very noticable change, still a bit rough around the edges.

I spoke with Lyndon last week, there is nothing new he is playing with cam timing and trying to get the backlog of other cars that are paying BIG bucks, engine rebuilds and the like done so he can finish the GMPP. He did do a bunch of work on a GXP last week for a customer and got to do some work on the tune.

I am still testing. Threw an error code but Lyndon says it is not tune related but a bad O2 sensor. I need to check a couple of hoses and the turbo. If nothing found then have to replace sensor and see what happens. I probably can not get to Joe's until the weekend after next. So, in the mean time, the car drives smooth and perfect but just with the darn picture of the engine lit up.

Chuck, need to pull your heat shield and see if there is any soot on the bottom and use a 22mm wrench on the O2 sensor to see if it is loose. The bolts on the turbo to CAT are 15mm. since we cleared the codes before and if the two spots are snug, then the O2 sensor needs replacing.

Also do not forget, I have the O rings that were homemade by the dealer on my sensors and also have the correct O rings we never replaced. This may also be a cause of codes. Also have the gasket that was later redesigned by solo. so there are quite a few possibilities.

Sounds like mod meet material. I might have to make a surprise visit. With food in hand of course.

I have an occasional cel about once every 60 days, I just clear it and keep on driving unless it starts to be frequent. It usually occurs after I don't wait long enough for the car to warm up before I get on it. I think sometimes it is just soot on the O2 sensor.

I haven't had a CEL yet either with the latest tune I have been running from Westers. I went into partial limp mode once a while ago, but it has never come back since...the car has learned it out. Just when things seem perfect, something better seems to be in the works from the same people.

I spoke with Lyndon for quite a while about all this last week, he had a 2007 GXP come in from the dealer last week, installed the GMPP exhaust and intake and HP went down, installed the GMPP turbo upgrade and got some very nice numbers but did not have the time to really dial it in the way he wants. He is still trying to find time to really get the GMPP dialed in, takes him a whole day and he just doesn't have that kind of time right now. He syas he is very close to the same power from the stock sensors as the new ones, but needs to do more testing. I have a new tune that I just installed, seems very good but I need it to stop raining!
