Definition of a Poser will produce this picture
« on: April 29, 2009, 11:17:10 AM »
A 2008 NA Sly Solstice posing as a Turbo V6

I'd heard about this guy who was bragging about Solstice on the base and I finally met him yesterday.  He's a nice guy, just looks like he's been influenced by Fast and the Furious ricers.

He has stick on hood accessories Intake Scoop, Hood Latches, Skull and Cross Bones and Buick vents.

Edge seal used all over the hood, doors, trunk, gas cover.   A Dodge SRT-4 spoiler and he cut the pontiac kidney panels out of the front and did a crappy job of putting in mesh

Best to remain silent on this one, so I won't critique his choices of mods other than Hood Pins?  What the???  Does he drive so fast in reverse that he's worried about the hood blowing open?  That has to be the stupidest thing I've ever seen on a clam shell, forward opening hood.

As for all the other mods...YIKES is all I got.

Hey with that turbo charged V6 he may need those hood pins, Rhys Millen had them, oh wait he had no hinge on the front. I am trying so hard to be politically correct, I have to ask just to mess with Gunny if he is a Marine?

He should come to the mod meet if he saw Critters car he would faint dead away, especially with those new big sticky tares!

  :poke: We can get a little crazy and imaginative but I hope not, and the only base I can think of in MD is Aberdeen Proving Grounds and that would make him Army.  Unless he happened to be a Tank Mechanic in training.  That could explain the stick on's   .  Hasn't learned to turn a wrench yet.  I went to the M60 Tank Mechanics school there in early 1990.

He's probably a young kid and like DBG said a nice guy.  I think he's just trying too hard.

I think his attending the mod meet might actualy be just what the guy needs.  A taste of true enthusiest bliss.

Andrews in is MD. lots of Marines there, I think even some Harrier's still, Indian Head Naval base (where Joe works) is in MD, not sure if they have any Marine's there but that's where the pictures were taken as I understand it, being an Air Force guy who works for the Air Force as a civilian and works with about 10 X oh I mean former Marine's I have to mess with Gunny.

And the jokes are what makes the services go round.  Without them we'd probably realy hate each other.  Looking at the reserve sites there are a couple on other services bases so it is possible.

My guess would lean more towards his being an Air force type but that's just because they all think they have to have huge wings to get off the ground and go faster.  he may be a wind tunnel tech.  and he can hang it out to dry.

I've had many jabs at my mods over the years (especialy from Kappa roadster owners who are avid "keep it original" types) and it's fine and personal opinion.  No one should be hurt by it if they're happy with what they've created.  I take most of what is said to thought and shrug the rest.  I, (as our 3M stock holder friend here) simply dare to be different.  I do honestly have to say I would not follow him closely down the road.  Any one of those mods could become instant flying FOD hazards.

the guy has bad taste!

Bad or poorly inlfuenced and KAPPA uneducated.  He may have simply wanted to try to do something different but doesn't have a lot of money, didn't know about the forums, so has no clue of the few vendors that make aftermarket products specificly for these cars, so he tried make do.  If he is active duty, I know he ain't rollin in dough.  I get run through the ringer every time Fed Ex or UPS come to the door.  :idk:

Good news is that now that DBG has maybe opened his eyes.  The stuff he has done (minus the wing and front facia) is easily reversable.

I'll say it too.  That car looks like complete dirt.   The spoiler doesnt even sit flat on the trunk.  That hood scoop looks terrible and the front bumper looks like a complete disaster.   What the hell was he trying to do???  The front end does not look clean at ALL.

Okay, for those of you who are unedicated.  Military bases in Maryland

Annapolis Naval Station
Naval Academy
Ft Meade
Patuxent River Naval Air station - Joe Works near here
Naval Surface Warefare Center Indian Head
Aberdeen proving grounds
Andrews Air Force Base
National Naval Medical Center, Bethesda
Ft Detrick
Coast Guard Yard - Curtis point (forgot them sorry)
CG stations  along the bay and rivers.
I think that's all that's left, and that is not counting what is in DC and VA

Two questions Joe,

Did you give him a Kappaperformance business card w/invitation to join?
Did you invite him to the mod meet?

said that with a straight face, I am so proud.

Yes,
Yes, and
Yes

  just the type of chatter I was looking for, he seemed a little nervous actually talking to a Solstice owner who did real performance mods.  I showed him my whole setup.  He said he didn't like the way the front bumper turned out and was going to buy a replacement.  I suggested he just get the GXP front end.  I offered to sell him a used GXP exhaust and rear facia to give him the dual look he wanted.  Gunny is partially correct, he hasn't been on the forums and doesn't know the vendors other than he recognized my WR.  He isn't a young pup either.  He's a retired 04 or 05 Navy and works at the PAX Base.  I hope he makes it to my next mod meet to see some of the cool stuff that he can do to his car that would make a difference.

I did tell him about this site and I pondered posting this thread but thought he may need some constructive view points....

I've seen pictures of worse. Is that being too nasty?
Unfortunately the worse was a Sky, which brought to mind the phrase 'Pimp my ride" or was it "I'm a Pimp and this is my ride"

I'd dig up pics but it's highly possible the owner is among us  :gaah:
