Sumitomo HTRZ III
« on: May 06, 2009, 12:48:05 PM »
Okay so I have had these tires for about 3 weeks, and 300+ miles, they aren't broken in yet but I can tell you the difference.

Rain:

Drive my car like it is dry out, don't spin the tires every time I change a gear or start out.  I don't have a raw egg between my foot and the gas pedal.  With the RSA's I did

Dry:
Only stomped it once so far (been raining a lot), comming from a side road turning left on to the road floored it in 1st as I crossed the center line, I got a faint howl from the tires and a chirp as I shifted into second semi-hard.  With the RSA's I would have been sideways in 1st and 2nd.

HTRZIII specs:
27.0" diameter
771 revs per mile
UTQG 300-AA-A
24.3 lbs

RSA specs:
26.6" diameter
UTQG  260-A-A
786 revs per mile
28.0 lbs

I have 255x45x18's on 8.5 inch Kasera KZ_K rims, total shipping weight was 48 lbs a wheel. My stock wheels and tire 54 lbs.

The wheels are a +50mm offset with a 6.77" backspace.  They fit over my 4 piston DDMWorks brakes without a spacer, which I had to use on my stock chrome wheels

So far I am very pleased with the combination, but mostly the grip these tire provide.  Thanks Dave and Randy, for the recommendation, and always pointing me back to these tires when I tried to change my mind.

If there is a con, it would have to be that the thread design isn't very aggressive looking in my mind.

How are they in heavy rain?  Anything would be better than the RSAs, almost got sideways on the highway but got it corrected thankfully.  And then dry conditions when all of this rain is gone.

Can anyone compare these to the Dunlop SP Sport Maxx, as they are only a few $$ difference.

Sumitomo owns Dunlop if that helps.

And Critter you are supposed to post any Con's as well if there are any, and it is OK to post what you paid.

Not a problem in heavy rain, great traction.  I'm pushing 260-270 HP to the rear wheels, and I don't have to :censor: foot through the gears to get anywhere.  RSA's I did a lot of clutch engagement at an idle and very slow acceleration

But goat, I did post the cons, don't like the looks of the thread.  What I paid, wheels were on sale for 109 (still are) and the tires were 143 I think.  11-1200 shipped

My grass is over a foot tall, going to have to buy a goat, and do a review.
