I didn't set up any avatar on this forum, I was thinking that I have to be a supporting member to have one.
Now I have avatar all the sudden.

You don't have to be a supporting member to have an avatar. As non supporting members, you would have to upload your avatar to a image hosting site like photobucket.com and then link to it via URL.

I can't see it, because I'm invisible.

Seriously though, I noticed if I edit things in my profile, I generally lose my avatar. I have the url to the image ready if I edit now, after realizing this "feature". Not sure why it does that. FF3, but don't think it's my browser. I wonder if it might be the code which pre-selects the radio buttons as not the option for "I have my own pic".

Every time I have updated/made a change to my profile I have to redo the avatar, for some reason it defaults to no avatar.

Make sure the radio button is selected correctly, too.

I figured out why this was happening...
I thought after setting it (and seeing it) I had to go to the bottom of the form and click "Save Change" button - but you don't THAT apparently resets the picture to nothing...

(<==== obviously) working now
