So, yesterday I got a phone call from the local dealer (30 min away) that's getting in a few coupes. Just got their first one in (black, just like I want it). How soon could I be there? Told him I was planning on heading down to that area in about half an hour, so probably be an hour or so.
90 min or so later I get there... Car is in the wash bay and apparently there are already a couple people looking at it wanting to deal (I say apparently, becasue I never saw them). I go back to the wash bay to check it out. Yup, looks cool. Has the chrome wheels (I'd prefer aluminum), but close enough. Salesman says lets go back and talk numbers...
Me: Are you taking credit union pricing?
Sales: <sad face> no.... wait, what is that?
I explain
Sales: no...
Me: MSRP at least then?
Sales: At MSRP we're only making $800. We have other dealers offering us $5000 over for this car.
My girlfirend: It's not our fault you have a bad deal with the factory.
Me: Actually, I beleive the difference between invoice and MSRP is $1100. Isn't that kinda normal?
Sales: We had a meeting this past weekend and we're looking at $10,000 over.

Us: No thanks. Not worth it. Goodbye.
So, is this normal? What the hell? I love the looks of the Coupe, but I plan to mod it. $40k is territory for a LOT nicer cars that I wouldn't mod very much...
