I've had a dashhawk since Christmas, and I definitely like it.    :thumbs:

But there is a new kid on the block called Rev, that works with iPhones or iPod Touch.  From what I can see,  it looks like a Dashhawk with a super-slick GUI, and the G-effects from Dynolicious added in as well. :yay:

Anybody over here tried it?  You have to buy the Rev application and an iPod Touch or iPhone.  If you go with an iPod Touch, it looks like the costs would be $229 for the iPod touch, about $150 for the OBDII-WiFi, and $50 for Rev itself.  But since I have an iPod Touch, it's about $200 to get Rev.

I would hold off a bit....With iPhone 3.0 OS they are opening up the bluetooth stack + the straight dock connector for periphials.  That means you may be able to not have to buy the 150X dollar WiFi one and get a cheaper cabled / bluetooth one.

Hold  off just a bit longer I'd say :)

If you jailbreak your iphone you shouldn't have to purchase rev for 50$. Can download any app you want for free as long as someone else has already purchased it and just uploaded it to websites.

The benefit of Rev is doing it without a cable.

I'm going to wait just a bit longer to see if there will be a bluetooth hardware piece but if not I'm getting one of the WiFI ones.

Already have the iPHone and like the REV app.

What about power?  On any lengthy drive you are gonna drain the 'ol iPhone battery pretty dang quick.  (100 screen brightness because the top is down, + super heavy WiFi connection)

I'd rather just get a cheap < 50 dollar cable and plug in vs having to have the iPhone plugged into my 12V accessory charger anyway...

Well I don't have an iPhone, just an iPod touch.  Not sure how much they will unlock the Bluetooth on that for the 3.0 software.....my underatnding is that the BT on the touch is much more limited....

You answered your own question.
It would have to be a really long trip for me to exhaust the iPhone Battery and I don't see myself needing to have it hooked up for more than an hour at a time and that won't drain more than half of the battery.  Even so, once I'm done doing whatever in the sky, I have an iPhone Adapter for my radio that powers it and I use the phone through the radio via Bluetooth.

In My Jeep it wouldn't be an issue because my mount powers it. 

I know this is more expensive but I don't care.  The benefit is not having a cable that's around my legs.

I have a Kenwood DNX8120
I attach the iPhone via a cable for music and video and it charges the phone at the same time

I have the phone bluetooth paired with the radio for Phone functions.
I have 6 preset quick dials, it loads the entire contact list and I can use Voice to select people and numbers.

iphone OS 3 allows for data over bluetooth for third party apps, but who knows if the hardware exists. took Rev quite a while to get the wifi one working.

Also i'm not sure if the iphone would be able to do handsfree calling while paired with another bluetooth device. switching back and forth would be a major pain. but maybe less pain that swapping cables between the stereo/charger and OBD interface while driving.

just install a car pc and get HP tuners or one of the other OBD interfaces :)

If you would stop talking and develop a working prototype, then maybe we would.

Some new tech out there might make that easier than it sounds.  There are PC's that can easily fit in the glove compartment now.  Add a Bluetooth keyboard with built in trackpad and your good to go with a 7" LCD in the place of the radio.
