Retractable License Plate
« on: August 16, 2009, 11:56:13 AM »
I installed the Sto-N-Go retractable lic plate bracket.  It is practically invisible, works great, and for $40 its a lot cheaper than a ticket.

I wrote a short review and installation instructions and placed them on my web site:

Bracket extended:

The only problem I see it the front end is already low and will scrape if there is any kind of angle to a drive way or entrance so it just makes it that much more likely to scrape the LP when in the down position.
BTW Im very careful and I have still scraped the front bottom lip.

yes, the LP bracket does scrape if it's down but you're not supposed to drive it with the plate down ;)

The LP bracket is much wider than the LP so even if it scrapes the LP is OK.  I'd rather scrape a $40 bracket than the front of my car.  I think this will actually help.

I'm glad KS doesn't require the front plate.  I was kind of surprised that my used Sol didn't have the front plate since it was actually originally purchased in KC MO which I think MO requires that front plate.
I would probably still get a ticket since I would forget to lower it when driving. Doh...

Thanks,

the one thing I forgot to mention, the front of the bracket does stick out a little bit beyonf the front of the lower lip of the bumper.  On my car it doesn't matter much because Deep is so dark that it is close to black but on my red Mustang the black tip of the braket stuck out like a sore thumb.  To camouflage it a bit, I painted the tip of the bracket the same color as the car.  You can still see it but it's not as obvious unless you are looking for it.

I might wind up painting this one also just because I'm anal.

I see you have it on a GXP, do you  think it would work fine on the std Sol since the fronts are slightly different with the additional small grill low on the GXP?

  Looks good !!

It will work with a bracket for the aft hole made from exhaust hanger metal that is (1" wide with holes, comes in a roll)  The you attach the aft one to the metal and the other end to the under side of the air damn plastic that goes up on a 45degree angle.  I did this at a meet last year for 07Clone

Yes, that is correct.  The bracket comes with a metal strip that can be used as a support.  It can be bent as needed and looks like a hanger strap but it is much stiffer.
