Transmission Fluid
« on: September 27, 2009, 08:55:29 PM »
Has anyone swapped out their tranmission fluid with a better kind? I was told some stuff called Redline MT09 is really good.  I drove a Manual Genisis Coupe that had it in it and i swear to u it drove like an auto it was so smooth!!!!! I think imma swap out to it, I know its MT 90 75W90 GL4 which does meet the specs for the manual transmission fluid requirement

I'm not sure on the Redline, but I always hear good things about the Redline stuff.  Personally, I change mine to the Royal Purple Syncromax about 6 weeks ago.  I do notice a better feel in the shifter, it's less clicky or notchy, just smoother in general.  I have not driven it yet though with cooler temps (below 70), and that's where my original fluid was very clunky until everything warmed up.

I don't think you can go wrong with either product, but like I said, I only have experience with R.P.

Mines Purple too, I think the big heavy shift knob helped more than the fluid did, and it was a damn site easier to install.

I was in the same Genesis Coupe that he is talking about. We test drove a dealer V6 at the meet and then someone let us drive his 4 cylinder turbo that was tuned and he said he replaced the transmission fluid with that redline stuff. The V6 was really rough on the shifts but once we got into the 4 it was wayyyyy smoother.

Nothing wrong with Red Line but your test is just a bit flawed, I could get into 2 different GXP's with the stock fluid and the trans might be totally different, oh wait as the matter of fact I have.

Be careful because GM is very specific with the type of transmission fluid to use.  I had Royal Purple in mine, but I had to have the differential replaced and my dealership warned me that next time the local rep might not replace it unless the stock fluid is in there.

Trust me, it doesn't stay purple long and unless you tell them they will never know.  And if it meets or exceeds the specs required they are p*ssing up a rope anyway

Magusson-Moss act, funny how I can always remember that and that they never give me a hard time at the dealership. GM and the dealers use the same tactics as the damn IRS, keep people scared. I have fought both and won, just don't get me started on lawyers.
Critter is right, even if he is still on my list, if it meets spec they can go piss up a rope and Royal Purple exceeds spec except in there racing oils and they tell you that up front (it's actually better than spec but can damage your catalytic converter) but if you don't have one......

Know your rights under the law and quit bending over.

Could anyone please post a detail protocol on how to change the automatic transmission fluid and filter?
Thank you.
