Where would the Solstice's "G"-Spot be?
« on: October 23, 2009, 03:25:05 PM »
I'm sure you're thinking perverted with a title like that, but I got to thinking the other day while driving behind a Pontiac Pursuit.

Seeing as how Pontiac changed most of their cars to "G"s over the latter years (Grand Am-G6; Pursuit-G5; Wave-G3, and the G8-not sure what it replaced), what would the Solstice have been 'rebadged' had Pontiac continued on?

Would it have even been rebadged, or was the "Solstice" nameplate too sacred to touch? IF it had to be renamed, I'm not sure where it would fall into in the "G" lineage. It's not quite a G8 in terms of size, but performance wise, yes it would be. It's better than a G6 I would think in all around aspects, so that would lend me to think G7? Sounds kinda lame if you ask me.

What are your thoughts? What do you think the Solstice would have been renamed, if Pontiac had continued, the Solstice continued on past it's expected 5 year span, and GM deemed it to be a requirement to rename it?

Maybe this isn't even an issue for the US, maybe they've just renamed the Pursuit and Grand Am in Canada? Hope it's the same in the US so this doesn't sound insane.

Dude... I had to go look up what a Pursuit WAS. That was a Canadian only name. It's always been the G5 in the USA.

The G8 essentially replaced the Bonneville (with a couple year gap)

I always thought of the "G" numbers in terms of size/engine size... G1 or G4 seems logical to me for the Sol, though I doubt it would have gone this route.

One could say Solstice entered the "G" series with the 2007 GXP. "X" = 10 in Roman numeral.
"G" "10" "P" Great 10 Pontiac
"GTO" Grinds Tires Off
Maybe it would have gone the way of WS6, WS7 etc. Wholly Sheep.
