I'm a convert - this stuff REALLY works!
« on: October 28, 2009, 08:30:16 PM »
I got my kappa sound deadening kit from Don/Rudeboy at MDMM6, and with lots of help from Bryan (nolanb) and Bobby (lil indian) got the doors done, but didn't have the time at the meet to do the floor and rear wall...  Driving home from the meet, frankly, the sound/noise was a bit weird, possibly louder than before even.  Worried.  I'm guessing now the noise was channeled through the floor somehow causing some strange effects.

Anyway, this past weekend I finally got to do the rest.  Took longer than I expected - mostly due to trying to get that pain-in-the-a$$ floor asphalt out.  Jeez that was tough and long-winded (and caused much sacrifice to the god of mechanics)  Also, I'd ordered a set of seat heaters and they had arrived on the Friday.  So, while the seats and interior were out, I decided to add those and that took another couple of evenings, so finally got everything back together and took my first test drive tonight.

Well, it a nutshell, IT'S GREAT!  I drove around with the top down, and even so, the car is noticeably quieter, less thrashy-mechanical sounding, and feels more solid somehow.  Even my wife (not a car nut) noticed the difference.  I know, I know, everyone says Don's stuff is great - but I figured a lot of that was "the Emperor's New Clothes" syndrome and I really wasn't expecting too much of a difference.  I was wrong.  This stuff is worth it's weight... <ahem>

With a nod to Siskel and Ebert:  RECOMMENDED

*THANK YOU* Don, you da man!

Very glad to hear it. I used to worry about the "emperor's new clothes" phenomenon too - spend long hours in the hot sun and it's pretty easy to convince yourself that your efforts were worthwhile. The number of wives/girlfriends who have endorsed the procedure has put an end to that :) I've actually considered adding a "disinterested significant other" endorsement page to the Web site.

The phenomenon of partial treatment drastically altering the noise inside the car is very interesting and quite common. I believe it has more to do with the reduction of noise from one area lowering the overall noise level and making the other noises much more noticeable. Bryan described a moment of panic when he first drove his car after treatment. He was hearing sounds he had never heard before. It turned out he was hearing sounds that had always been there but had been overpowered by the general din of the car.

I don't hear any weird noises, wait a minute let me turn down the stereo, oh OK I hear them now. I have actually turned the stereo off a couple of times just to listen, it sounds very different, the noises from outside the car are much less noticeable. I went nuts on the panel behind the seat with CLC tiles because I knew the added amp and 10" sub would test my work, it has paid off, I initially had some vibration from the plastic panel behind the seats, a couple of extra screws and problem solved, and I push the sub hard.

At the risk of threadjacking, can you start a new one on the seat heaters?  What kit?  How was the install?  Where are the controls?  sunnygator

I agree with the above posts:  I installed the sound deadening with these guys at the meet, and the road noise is almost gone completely.  The cabin is so quiet...no rattles, no squeaks, and the STOCK stereo sounds amazing!  I highly recommend this, and Don is a REALLY great guy who has went above and beyond for us.  He was there on Saturday and Sunday of the meet, all day, helping us install it.  I give this kit a 12/10!!!

A fair bit of work but one of the best things I have done to a car, outside of the DDM installed Supercharger.  Make the car sound just a whole lot more solid, now I hear the exhaust out the back end instead of vibrating thru the car.
