I will begin.  We ordered our NA Pontiac Solstice on 12/13/2005.  I remember it was on a Tuesday.  The salesman told us that we were officially on the list.  He also said that we were #8 on the list and we might be able to take delivery sometime in May.  At that time he had delivered 7 and we were now # 8 on the waiting list.  We had just taken a family vacation to Florida, flying both sons and families down to Orlando in November of 2005.  We had a blast, and happened to visit Epcot Center where GM World of Motion had a Solstice on display and also a GM Engineer there to answer questions.  Well, right there and then Carol and I got the hots real fast, and after laying eyes on it I told her "that I had to have it".  Well we returned to Kansas and after discussion, placed the order on 12/13/2005.  The order was switched to the GXP on 04/28/2006 which was the first day you could order the GXP.  So our wait was from 12/13/2005 until 12/27/2006 when we took delivery of "Miss Red Eagle".  That was 1 year 14 days, order to delivery.  Anyone beat it?  Even if you can't post the details of your order for all of us to see.  It's fun to look back in time and reflect on our pride and joy.

In 2005, while others had been waiting months after ordering their Sol after Apprentice, I placed my order with one dealership ... after about 3 weeks they sent my deposit back stating "Because the order process on the Pontiac Solstice is currently at a standstill we are returning your deposit."  (at that time there was a major lag due to water leak testing and produced cars were delayed by as much as 4 weeks).

BTW .... I later found out that this dealership was charging up to $5,000 premium on the Solstice.

I took my $500 deposit and went to one of the largest Pontiac dealers in the region .. the salesman and the manager were excited to have me interested in the Solstice .. they had only had one other ordered.  They currently had ONE dealer order in the system ... they changed the color and options for me.  That was November 2005 ... 5 weeks later to the day my first Sol was delivered Dec 15th.

This dealer was such a joy to work with - the service dept was very receptive to all the info I provided with regard to the car (with the exception of one incident nearly a year later, but that is a different story).

Due to high mileage and afraid of some mechanical issues that would no longer be covered I decided to 'upgrade' to a 2007 with more options.  The Sales Manager was able to meet the deal I presented, they located a Sol in Erie, PA that met my requirements and on Dec 1st, 2007 I purchased my second Sol.
Just here to help a friend!

I may not be the first but here is my story. My selling dealer would not take a deposit but said they would put my name on a list. So I placed my order in 10/05 for a 2.4 Saturn Sky, silver with black leather interior, 6 disc Monsoon audio, LSD, 5 spd. My dealer called me in March 2006 to confirm my order. I told them I wanted to wait for the Redline. They told me that it was a concept and may not be available for some time and I could lose my place in line. I let them know that I had read on the skyroadster forum that it would be available for order soon so I was willing to take the risk. They called me a couple of months later and told me my order for the Redline had been placed. I waited and waited and finally on 12/12/06 I picked up my car.

Well, I looked on Auto Trader in August of 2009 and found my 2007 for sale with 11,105 miles on August 26th.  Did the paperwork and paid the man on September 1st and have been smiling ever since!

I know, I don't qualify, but I was feeling left out.

I posted this on the big board on March 19th, 2008 the day I ordered my "pride and joy". Been nothing but Permagrins since then.

Event code 3400 on April 12, 2008
Born April 30, 2008 (VIN 1G2MF35X58Y130283)
Delivered to dealer May 23th, 2008
Delivered on May 27, 2008

It's been a long road.

I saw the 2002 concept in Detroit as did many others and fell in love with it. I felt the lump in my throat as I saw it up on the stage. I was laid off from work at the time and as much as I wanted one I knew it wasn't to be.

Then came the announcement of the GXP. Damn, I wanted that even more... Looks and the power to match.

Then in the summer of 2006 when they first became available to order, I ordered the 2007 Solstice GXP that I have seen in my dreams since I was a kid. I was back to work and things were good. Christmas of 2006 brought presents for the car. A personalized plate, red caliper paint and caliper stickers were under the tree.

The wait was long for those first cars as many of you might remember. In February of 2007 when it looked as though I was once again going to find myself on the unemployment lines I called the dealer to cancel the order. All those months of waiting for nothing. Heart broken and to find out that the same day that when I called the dealer to cancel, he was given a build date made me feel even worse. I was able to cancel however and the car no doubt went to a loving home where it would be taken care of as it should.

I remained an active member of this forum and I suppose that in a way I was able to enjoy the car through many of your posts.

Well as it goes, what goes around, comes around and things are picking up at the plant. More work is coming our way. Spring and top down driving weather is just around the corner.

Yesterday I went to the dealer to get some pricing information and today I placed the order. I thought long and hard about what to get over the years and to say that I am pumped about getting this car would be an understatement of a size that you could only imagine. I had thought for about 2 minutes of waiting for a 2009 but hell, I have waited long enough!

I ordered a Deep with the darkside top and every option available but the smokers package. I pick up the spoiler that I ordered from Rudy at Aftershock designs in the next few days and the dealer has said that they will paint it for me. Looks at this point as though I will have the car in my driveway around the end of May / first of June.

Does anyone have pictures of a Deep with black top and red calipers? A high resolution picture would make a great desktop wallpaper until I can take my own pics.

Thanks again everyone for being here. You have all been GREAT!

Bob
Just trying to do my part...

I put $500 down on my first Solstice on Jan 18, 2005 and it was delivered exactly 9 months later on Oct 18, 2005.  I kept it 18 months and 19,500 miles and traded it in for the mean GXP that was on the showroom floor.  I only lost about $3000 of my original investment in the trade.  I love this car.  I still get lots of compliments and I plan to hang on to this one for a long time.

I ordered mine early, just do not remember when, they were not available yet, I put down 500 bucks and waited 3 or 4 months.  It was fun tracking the build codes with small dealer.  I traded the car in for the exact same color gxp and never told my wife.  When she found out, WOW.  That sure was fun.  I think it will be a couple more years and it will be forgiven.
