Fidanza light weight flywheel,Spec stage 3+ clutch
« on: December 20, 2009, 04:25:29 PM »
Just ordered a Fidanza light weight aluminun flywheel and Spec stage 3+ clutch. There are postives and negatives to this setup.  Engine will rev faster because of less rotational mass using less hp with more going to the rear wheels but the bad is it will be easier to stall your engine from a standing start. The heavier stock version keeps the inertia of the engine going and makes it easier from a standing start.  They also say you will hear more transmission gear noise, I think that would be from the syncro but don't know for sure. Anyone out there with a similiar set up? Please comment Gray Wolf

I don't have this set up but I do have a ?  Is the friction surface of the flywheel also aluminum or is it steel?  If its steel how is it attached?  Not sure that I would want an aluminum friction surface.

The Fidanza has a replaceable steel friction surface. Neat feature. But, it still takes 9 hour round trip to swap it !!!!!  :gaah: :banghead: :barf:

But, this WILL be my setup when I do it.

Kenny -------------- it takes NINE HOURS flat rate. And THAT assumes a lift and the tools. Fluids? Refill the master cylinder if needed !

Specifically - once in the air (lift of stands) remove the exhaust, diff, torque arm, drive shaft, turbo, and after detaching the linkage remove the gear box. Then the clutch and flywheel. Assemble in reverse and do NOT get any dirt, grease, or fingerprints on the clutch, pressure plate, or flywheel. Piece of cake, huh? As soon as I smoke my stock stuff I will be laying under Streak for a while.

Bob,
I think it only took DDM and Joe about 3 hours to do mine.  But of course that was with my supervision.  Joe do you remember how long it took?

If you plan on changing the fluid in the tranny, while it is out is a lot easier.

Different physical set up. Your 06 2.4 has no torque arm and that means the diff stays in place. No turbo means less time as well. I believe that the 2.4 flat rate is in the 3-4 hour time frame.

See there are advantages to haveing a 2.4

HA !!!!!!!!! No there aren't. Actually, knowing what I know now about the Kappas, for Solo SSM a 2.4 might be a better starting point than the 2.4. But, it doesn't matter as I am not switching. I just wish those damn Evos were not in B/SP.

By the way, there is a "make an offer" auction on e-bay for the Fidanza flywheel and right now the seller countered my offer with $300. Might jump on that.

I have this set up.
Yes the NVH isn't as good.
When i launch it with the 315/30R18 hoosiers i have to rev it up higher or it chatters.

I run a Fidanza lightweight flywheel and Findanza Three Two kevlar puck clutch on the FFR Coupe.  Its the sh*t.  There was a little chatter at breakin and sometimes in horrible stop and go traffic at super low engine speeds, but its not bad.  I wish something similar were available for the GXP LNF.  I freakin' HATE the clutch let off in my Sol.

I'd rather a fancy paddle shifter system and not worry about any of this clutch stuff :)

The closest thing to realistic is a Vette slushbox with tuning and third party paddle shifters. Not sure if it would fit. And not sure if the trans would talk properly to the LNF to do rev matching. So maybe an entire 2008 Vette V8 and trans would work :)

I think you might have some trouble with that as the vette is a rear transaxle (transmision in the back). It would probably be easier to pick up an aftermarket racing transmission (company name slips my mind) and massage it in there.
And a true paddle shifter (SMG) gear box still uses a clutch.
Now it would be sweet if we could some how fit an Audi Dual Clutch tranny in there.

Oh yeah. I forgot about that. They still call it a 6L80. I guess the one from a G8 or CTS-V would work. They all have the same transmission computer which handles the rev matching.
