Plug-n-play NAVI from Motevo
« on: December 30, 2009, 02:12:15 PM »
I've been exchanging emails with one of our new users that has an 09 Coupe and he is preparing to install a new GPS NAVI from Motevo.  http://www.motevomobile.com/main.htm.   The manufacture makes plug in play radios as OEM swapouts.

The one that the member is getting ready to install is the Motevo GTV-GMC1

http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/p_22062_Motevo_GTV-GMC1.aspx

This NAVI radio has built in iPod, Blue Tooth, Steering wheel interface and much more.  It uses NAVTEQ mapping technology (same as Garmin) and is a full double DIN fit.  No bracket required.  This means a larger display.

I thought this was such a good find, I'd share it with you all.  I'm looking forward to his install and later review.

It was on this link that the Sky and Solstice was listed.

The screen is only 6.2" but it is a lot cheaper than the alternatives, the biggest concern I have is the low preamp out voltage, if you are using the stock amp it should work fine, but for an aftermarket amp that is a bit low. 2 volts is a minimum for most aftermarket amps and that is the max of this unit. It would save me about $400 over what I had planned. This would be a fantastic upgrade if you plan on leaving the rest of the system stock.

I am looking into getting this.  It is perfect for what I am going for.  The only thing is that I don't see whether or not it accepts satellite radio.  Anyone know?

Interesting.  The first link you gave says the button lighting is green (ugh!).  The second said blue.  Which is it and/or could it come with red (which is what I'd prefer)?

Both websites say it has a 7" screen.  Where did you see the 6.2" screen size, cause if is not a 7" screen it does take it off my list.
This would be a nice option especially since you wont need to buy the wiring harness, a mounting bracket or the steering control module, unless I missed something.  I didn't see if it was compatible with a HD radio module.  I would like to have that with my new Nav. system.  But a big contender on my list now.

Thanks DBG

A contender it is, but lighting not being red would be a big deal to me.  All of my interior lights are red, including the LED's I have under each footwell.  If it has satellite radio capability and red lighting, I will purchase it.  It would save a ton on buying all of those other wires and adapters, plus it has GPS.  Great find DBG.

OK I just called Motevo and spoke with one of their reps.  The unit DOES NOT accept satellite radio.  You will have to purchase one of those dash units like a Sportster or something.  Also, it does NOT have red backlighting.  He said most of the GM cars have blue or green, with the exception of the Solstice.  You knew there had to be a catch for that price!  Oh well.

Spicy3480 how difficult would it be to go in and change the leds inside the unit to red?
Hmm....I wounder if they will come out with version 2 that might add a Sat. radio addition or a HD radio.
The only other thing I see is the mic for the bluetooth is next to the CD slot.  Is this a better location than if it went in the A pillar?  A question for people who have bluetooth.

HD radio is a sham, don't bother with that. There is no real High Definition (HD) sound.  That term was developed in the video industry and the radio industry tried to use it.  Radio use that to impress buyers and try to sell a different product.  I worked in the FM transmitter government market for almost 3 years after I retired from the Navy.

That's just what I was thinking. Nice, and it'll be interesting to see how this pans out Joe. I too would want red leds to match everything else in the car that GM put in.

I might just consider this unit if it'll play nice with the rest of a stock Monsoon system. I've been lookin'...

Could it be both?
7" diagonal and 6.2" actual horizontal measurement?

It bothers me somewhat that I am having such a hard time finding map updates for this unit. The manufacturer says that you have to go to Navteq but Navteq doesn't list the Motevo.

You might want to give Navteq some time to add Motevo to their list.  It might be that Motevo is a newer brand for Nav systems.  Not sure but haven't seen them around for that long yet.

That may well be. According to one site I saw, it looks as though they have had an office in California only since 2007.

I don't know how hard it is to change the LED's.  It would probably involve taking the unit somewhat apart, which I would not like to do.  I am more concerned with the lack of satellite radio, as I need my fix of Howard Stern and 81BPM in the morning.

I like what I've heard of HD Radio just cuz it gives me a clean digital signal.

XM is a pain here... there are trees everywhere! it's the PNW! Heck, the streets are lined with them. I can't get a signal without it cutting out for more than a couple minutes.

that is exactly what I have been looking for too!  Any body know how long Montevo has been around?  Never heard of them.  Could it really be that easy?

And you can read a pdf review about one of their other units here. As they claim to make 100 different units, I would assume they are are similar with different cases and interfaces.

If you look at the screen you can see it's not 7", if it has any kind of buttons around the perimeter it can't be 7" that is all the room there is there. I found a listing on eBay for a brand new unit for $550 that says the screen is 6.2" that is what it looks like to me. I agree no satellite no deal, not a big Stern fan but gotta have BPM!

The Eclipse AVN726e unit is on sale all over the place for $700 or just under, even Crutchfield sells it for $1299 with a $500 store credit. It does support Sirius satellite and has a 7" screen but will end up costing almost twice as much with all the bells and whistles.

That's true but the attraction of the Motevo is that it's plug and play where the Eclipse is not.
