CODE P0171 HOW TO FIX?
« on: January 29, 2010, 01:39:16 PM »
Hi today I got code P0171, says BANK1 is running to LEAN? Is there something I can do? I don't want to go to the dealer and have them screw me over on some parts that are $40 and them charge me 300 for labor....so if anybody has a answer or anything. Thank you

Have you changed anything on the car lately? I'm thinking exhaust leak.

sounds like a cat leak/exhaust, i had that after i used the wrong gasket on the cat after going to a high flow. my home made gasket of header material did not work to well, used a new gm o ring type and never looked back .

I think its your intake, the leak has to be somewhere after the maf. I had this happen to me on another car. I cleaned the tube and/ or tightened the pipe and cleared it. Its sucking more are in then the maf knows then when it gets through it thinks its running lean.

You have the Solo shorty headers on your 2006. Are they the first version that Solo offered? The first version of the header that Jeff offered had a manufacturing defect  that caused them to crack and leak. If you do find a crack in your headers contact Jeff at Solo or Steve (Spicy3480) here for a free replacement. They have been updated and the new version is trouble free.

Keep us posted as I am curious as to what you find out.

Sounds like you found the problem Here's a list of other problems that can set off po171 code- vacuumhoses for splits, kinks impropper connect-Insufficient fuel in tank, low fuel pressure, malfunctioning fuel injectors, vaccum leaks at intake manifold, throttle body and injector O rings, air induction system and the intake ducts for leaks or a missing air filter.  A cracked EVAP canister,Evaporation pipe obstructed or leaking, crankcase ventalation system leaks, HO2S electrical wires contacting exhaust/shorted /grounded to low reference circiut or a malfunctioning engine. Off the top of my head thats all I can think of that sets off codePO171  Special thanks to the GM service manual 2008M-car for Solstice/Sky for there input into my brain darn just got a brain malfunction light help! Now a bladder full light, methane alarm #@^@^
