I have had a problem (in warranty and now out) of the buttresses not readily releasing. Well, with such crappy weather I decided to see what the real issue was on my car. (Sorry, no pics.)
At first I tried some spray lube into the release area and grease on the pins. No luck. So, once I DID get the trunk open, I pulled the black sound insulation panel off of the trunk lid. There is a "Y" shaped cable assembly that attaches the servo to the two release mechanisms at the buttress pins. At the junction there is a black plastic assembly that has the main cable coming in from the servo which is attached to a coupler. The two cables that go out to the releases are coupled there as well. There are two (male and female) enclosures that snap together to contain the three cable ends and the couple. My enclosure had broken, and this allowed everything to flop around, and thus the proper tension could not be maintained so the releases were not sufficiently retracted. I used couple of large cotter keys (one on each side) for support of the broken housing and aggressively taped up this reinforced assembly. Bingo, winner winner.
Total time = 1 hour. Result = smooooooooooth truck release.
