What's with these crappy door handles????????
« on: March 31, 2010, 08:16:56 PM »
Has anyone else literally pulled their door handles right out of the door?  I am up to my third one...second drivers side, and one on the passenger side.  I am getting tired of replacing the handles.  Why are they made like such garbage??????

It's because you use them with your lambo doors?  they can't handle the stress of up lifting.    Either that your guns are too big and you have to be more gentle.

Ha...I hardly even use the lambo doors...and I never use the handles.  I really don't even pull hard.  They just break...and it's kind of ridiculous.

If I remember correctly, Cheers sent in a pair of door handles to Santana.  I wonder what the status on that is.

Mine is at dealers as we speak for a drivers door handle, drivers door latch and a intercoooler that looks like a boa constrictor after a big dinner. Kind of the big three of common complaints.
So far it seems as though they are treating me well. They called me this afternoon to say they had to order the intercooler for overnight delivery and the car wouldn't be ready today . They offered to deliver a free loaner car to my house!!!! I almost fell over from shock.
Ill update this post when I get my car back. They made no mention of the dreaded drive axle recall. Mine has never leaked with nearly 20K miles and frankly I don't want them to touch it!

There was a part number change about 18 months ago when an upgraded version replaced the old. The design is in place in a LOT of GM products. The old style looks like this --

while the new style looks like this ---

Notice the additional webbing. The lack of support allowed the wells the spread and the lugs pull out. This is what I did to one of the new ones. That is JB Weld stuffed in there.

Lambo doors (should be called Kambo doors for Sky's and Sols-- get it? ) are probable more than a plastic door handle can tolerate.

Scary thing is that I NEVER use the handles for the vert doors.  I have a new one on order, unfortunately I am out of warranty.

I have 34,500 on my 08 GXP and so far the handles are OK.  My wife has about the same mileage on her 08 Redline and the driver side handle broke last year.  Even though the mileage is about the same she made more frequent trips when attending college and her handle had a higher duty cycle.  I wished I had used some JB weld or epoxy in mine when I had 'em off to paint them black.   :(

If the billet handles ever come out I'd buy them right away. They'd be worth the $400-$500 a pair (I think) they are asking.

You have extras laying around?  How much would you want for them?

Yep - I had both of my handles fail on my '06 Solstice.  The dealer replaced the free and so far, so good.  It was a faulty design, but when you get them replaced, the dealer should use the newly designed handles.

R the handles the same for both sides?
Only the rear of my driver side is messed up.
I could replace just that part

Just had the passenger side handle fail on my 2007 with a little over 20,000 miles.  Hopefully they put in the new design and it won't fail again.  Now wondering when the drivers side will go.

The left lists for $68.39, and the right lists for $54.85.  My price is $30 for the left, and $25 for the right.  I will take care of the shipping, if you are in the states.
Thanks, Dave Russell

Thanks Joe.
In relooking at the pictures, I have the newer style and it still broke.
Guess I'll try and get my local dealer to order me a cobalt one in black so I don't have to wrap it in vinyl
