SMMM7 - Military members of the comunity
« on: April 08, 2010, 02:54:23 PM »
Just wondering how many members of the military community (active and retired) have looked at the Navy Recreational Facility down the road from Joe's for accommadations for the mod meet?  It is a bit more expensive than TLF or Navy lodge at NAS Pax River but cheaper than hotels in the area.

The log cabins sleep 6 or 8 per side for $85 or both sides for 140.

I'm still undecided if I'm sleeping over.  If so, I plan to sleep on the garage floor :D

Hmmmm, that would be cheaper than my current plans....gotta give it some thought.  You staying there?  Looking to split a "side?"
Will my DA Civilian CAC work ok? - it usually does at most of these things....

It's at the Solomon's Navy Rec Center.   About 4 miles from my place and yes a CAC will suffice to get on the base but you have to have a military ID to rent the place.

http://maps.google.com/maps?oe=utf-8&client=firefox-a&ie=UTF8&q=solomons+navy+recreation+center&fb=1&gl=us&hq=navy+recreation+center&hnear=solomons&cid=0,0,8295755659017855491&ei=ppK-S96cMsL-8AbC3OmACQ&ved=0CAcQnwIwAA&ll=38.333796,-76.47053&spn=0.007726,0.021007&t=h&z=16&iwloc=A

Joe, if it's like the Navy lodge here, as long as one person is Military, they can have non military guests with them at the lodge, is that what you meant?

Here is the link, from here click on lodging.  You will probably get a bad certificate error, but you can accept it and go to the site.  When I checked earlier this week they had appartments, logcabins, and bungalows available.  The contact numbers are:

410.286.7301/7302/5529/7416.  It seems to be a lottery which ones are on machine and which one they answer.  According to the web site it is open to and with the following priorities:
Active duty/reserves
retired
dod civilians

Here is the site:  http://www.cnic.navy.mil/Solomons/index.htm

1 Bedroom apartment 70 a night
2 bedroom apartment 80 a night
1 bedroom log cabin 85 a night
2 bedroom house 100 per night...

Any military taker want to share a two bedroom...

Don't think we could beat this deal in town and it is close.

BTW, I am active duty, so get first choice.  Plenty of places available.

I've stayed there before, pretty nice spot.  The place I stayed in had fully furnished kitchen and 3 bedrooms (queen sized beds) and a couch.  Nice little deck on the front also.  They will let anyone through the gate as long as they are escorted by a someone with a DOD ID.  I give it 3 thumbs up!

Any ship can be a minesweeper - ONCE

pigs - long torpedo shaped floats that support the ends of the cutting cables as they are draged through the water
otters - vented squares at the bottom of the support cable, they guide the direction of the cutter cable under tow
6:censor:  - accoustic box towed through the water to represent different propeller sounds
2victor - another accoustic box, this one makes machinery sounds
magnetic cable - sends possitive and negative magnetic pulses throught the water, each pulse uses as much electricity as a major city does in 15 minutes, pulses about once a minute.

More nonsense you didn't want to know

I think government contractors can stay at the rec center, they just can't be the one renting the facility. Anyone with a CAC can get on the base.

Anyone can stay as a guest of someone authorized to rent, Military active/reserve/retired, DOD employees active/retired, and I believe other government employees.
