The most time consuming part of this whole mod is removing the rear bumper.  Take your time with that part and don't misplace any little parts.  The job on Reed's car went really well, mostly because SA kept me from screwing up too bad.  The results were great!  Although, I have not heard if Reed is happy with it or not.

Since we haven't heard that Reed isn't happy with it I am going to put that in the win category.

Removing the bumper cover was the time consuming part.  Put the rear end on jackstands and remove the rear wheels and undo the rear section of the fender liners, it makes it much faster to get to the screws that hold the cover in place. 

GJ didn't we discover that you don't have to remove the backup light from the bumper cover?

We discovered a lot of things that weekend.  First off, I look great in pink.  Second, some folks there couldn't take there eyes off my legs when I had my Virginia Beach shorts on.  Third, yes, you can leave the light on the bumper, just disconnect the electrical.

You forgot to mention that we discovered if after your done working on Critter's car and you found you forgot to reinstall something don't attempt to go back and correct the matter.  I think that was the first time I have ever been assaulted with a pair of pliers.

Thanks GJ and Sol Asylum. I had already planned on setting aside a whole day to do the project. I have a lot of stuff I plan on doing involving the back end : this backup sensor mod, swiping rear brake light, and tinted backup lights. I really do appreciate the advice though. I'm sure its gonna make that day go a whole lot smoother :-)

My current plan is to try it with the materials that came with it and drive it for a while. If its not to my satisfaction I may try adding more antenna or adjusting its placement. That's my plan anyways. We'll see how it actually goes :-)

It's tough to do because it needs to be about 18" above the ground, that puts it to high for the bumper.   Especially if your car is lowered.

The sensor is great!  I think maybe it would be better if it were higher because it goes off for the slight change in grade when I back out of my driveway and the speed bump near my parking spot at work every time I back out and turn.  Luckily I'm used to the amount of beeping those cause and realized it was different about a month ago or I'd have bought a crappy old Civic from a coworker.  It's also pretty much useless in the rain since it just goes nuts.  Now I understand why OEMs use the ugly round sensors instead.

The back up alert I installed sure had a lot less to do to install it - no disassembly of the bumper etc., and it works very well.  No holes drilled.

The lower item is a laser sensor - it is the upper bit that detects what you are backing into.

I have a backup camera installed on the frame, that wouldn't work.  Glad to see there are other simple options.
