How to install boost gauge in LNF
« on: April 17, 2010, 05:04:21 PM »
After popping out the coil cover you will have something like this:
[attachment=1]

After installing the T connector and the 2 hoses from the kit.
Orange hose is the same one from previous picture, the T connector and the green hose are provided in the boost gauge kit generally.
[attachment=2]

Hardest part is to run the hose from engine bay in interior and can be done through this:
[attachment=3]

For those like me who will be installing an electronic boost gauge you need to connect it to the power. I gave up on the idea to run the wire from passenger fuse box and decided to power it from the engine fuse box (driver side).
I hooked it to the fuse #33 which looks like to be the "delayed off head lights" because is on when the key is in the ignition and is turning off after some seconds after the key is off the hub.
[attachment=4]

I ran the wires among the others on top of the engine bay:
[attachment=5]

The product:

Shadow Pro: 60mm, 2.0 Bar, Peak Recall Option, Warning Light, 5 illumination levels

P.S. I know for many of you this is something very simple, so simple that it doesn't need a DYI post, I know many have posted info about different parts of this but for people like me is far more helpful when using pictures and some info.

Great an engine bay dirty than mine as a daily driver.  :)

Is that a MAP sensor you tapped into between intake and charge pipe?

Sly Bob & GXPinKC: I'm still waiting the confirmation of the real gearheads around here for a confirmation that I have mounted correctly. I wanted to measure the pressure as close of intake mani as possible. So MASTERS please chime in.

NormSky: I know I have a dirty engine, but you should be living around here first  :mad: (car is dirty in 30 minutes after a good wash, i'm searching for 10 days already for a product to clean my engine, i can't find in last 2-3 days of search for a MAF cleaner, etc), Remember Romania!!
I tapped between MAP placed next to the intake mani and intake mani nipple, did you checked the pictures?  :gaah:

Treeman: couldn't check for sure, too much traffic around here, i have to hit the highway for that, no empty good straight road close  :gaah: I could only see that is a little bit slower and smaller than the DIC. My DIC shows fast 175 kPa (25 psi) while the gauge wasn't showing way more than 1,6 bars (23 psi) and about half of second slower to reach that than the DIC. I will test more and report here. Maybe I will try a small video  :banghead:

Morfious: I saw that on BB, looks pretty slick but how you will run a wire (hose) there? Open the dash?  :(

Yep, that's where my t-fitting is installed as well. You should see vacuum when you're off the gas. Also, you will now see just how crappy the stock boost gauge is, an analog gauge is way more responsive.

TAKE 1
LatinVenom: thank you your confirmation  :thumbs: as far as needle, this gauge it has the feature:
Quote
Stepping Motor - Shadow gauges use a micro stepping motor with a built-in gauge. Because of this the gauges are highly accurate and are quick responding, unlike coil gauges where its indictor is unsteady and inaccurate as the vehicle is running.
  :idk:
Probably you are right, a needle gauge can't match a electronic display for sure.

TAKE 2
Uranium-238: ;) I see vacuum when i'm off the gas -0.8 bars (11psi)  :thumbs:. How come an analog is more responsive than a electronic one?  :idk:

Even if an analog guage is more responsive then a digital one. All that matters is what whe ECU sees. Since that is what is in control.

Sorry my comment was dumb. I meant an air driven gauge.

Both the ECU gauge and an analog one have their uses.

As for why analog is more responsive, it shows results in real-time. The digital gauge has to sample the data, process it, then display it. That all creates some lag, though in most cases it's not much. Sample rate is different...in fact that's my guess as to the biggest reason why the stock gauge isn't very responsive.

This all sounds too much like what I do at work...  :gaah:

That's a lot of boost considering no GMPP. Very nice.

Does anyone know if there is a 2,5 or 3.0 bar boost gauge?
i have been searching, but no luck....
it seems that i get more than 1,75 bar and since i don't know exactly the boost, i want to be able to see if there is more than 2.0 bar

2 bar is more than enough and I know there are boost gauges with more than 2 bars but don't ask me which ones.

Did you compare the boost from the analog gauge with our car's stock digital gauge? Are they showing the same boost? I hope i didn't miss any post....
